Any news on him!

Will he be in Tampa for the season?

He's looked steady in camp from what I've read (wasn't able to go to any of the sessions). He's in the battle for the 6th/7th spot and hasn't hurt himself at all. Most people think Smaby will make the team this year. If he doesn't, it will be one of the last cuts because he hurt himself with bad play or someone else really stood out.

He will most likely get his first preseason action of the year Saturday against the Capitals.

Article about Matt in today's Tribune:

Smaby Working His Way Through It
By ERIK ERLENDSSON The Tampa Tribune

BRANDON - As he skates through conditioning drills, Matt Smaby's strides tend to get a little shorter and his face gets a little redder the longer he goes.

It can be like watching a train wreck sometimes to see him trying to keep up with the rest of his group, but the key is watching him push himself until the end.
