Falcons sign thug

Billy Tibbetts. Not a good player to have around our prospects. I don't like this move at all.

I wonder if Mike Barnett or Laurence Gilman had a voice in this signing. The Falcons do have the right to sign four players on their own, but you'd think that Bruce Landon (Springfield's GM) would run this by Coyotes' management before making a signing such as this.

EDIT: Here's what Bobby Clarke told the South Jersey News about Tibbetts' brief stint with the Flyers' organization.

>> "It was just a mess," Clarke said. "I guess that's maybe how you can describe what it was, him yelling and hollering at trainers and teammates ... The kid was just screwed up. We offered to get him help with psychologists, but we didn't have him long enough to even know what the problem was." <<

I don't understand this move. I realize the Falcons want to add a more physical presence up front, but why not go after Dennis Bonvie? He's a big guy and was a fan favorite in Binghamton and Wilkes-Barre. Instead, the Falcons do the opposite and bring in a guy that is a PR nightmare and a locker room cancer. Why, why, why, why????

Give Springfield police something to do? Bruce could host a circus with Billy being the main draw? This is sick.

Why not? Billy Tibbetts actions from junior up until now should explain it. Anytime you bring in a clown like him, you are desperate.

Absolutely true. But if you had been an STH here for the last 5 seasons your viewpoint may be somewhat different.

He was but he was 17 and she was 15 so in a case like that it could just mean she was underage. I think they automatically have to file in cases like that even if it wasnt force. That was the gist i got form some articles several years back. But his actions with various teams since then has not helped and definatly given him a negative persona.

Can't believe someone signed this guy. He does have talent and can be as tough as they come, but he just doesn't have his head screwed on right. His time here in Pittsburgh was very up and down.

I suppose the theory is that a thug coach is just what a thug player needs.

In any case, with things the way they are in Springfield, change is preferable to inactivity. It would be nice to see a "Desrochers for Pelletier"-type deal, where Phoenix swapped one of their bums (Bezina, Banham?) for someone else's to see if the change would produce results.

Yeah, but it was a complicated situation. I'm not going into any detail about this on the boards, but any of the Pens fans including me could probably explain it. I'll keep it clean and say that I'm pretty sure it was not actually assault, and more of an age issue, if you know what I mean.

That was never my problem with him. He made a mistake and had to move on.

The problem was, he never moved on. He constantly did stupid crap in Wilkes Barre. Then the apologists would say 'Oh, get off the soapbox. He made mistakes a long time ago... blah blah blah.'

He's a bad guy to have for a team trying to build up a team. My sympathies to you all.

The Falcons Forum at www.masslive.com is filling up fast with anti-Tibbetts sentiment. Several season ticket holders, myself included, are boycotting the team until this cancer is removed. Landon is really on the hot seat now.

Salad/croutons- Why do you say Banham and Bezina are bums?

On Tibbetts, if he could just keep his cool he will be an asset.. He has already put some much needed spark out there. Its the temper that is the problem and from what I know he is trying very hard to change. Bruce has told him one screw up and you are gone. If he wants teams to start taking him seriously he needs to straighten up.

Just my opinion

In the full-scale melee near the end of Sunday's game vs. Lowell, Tibbetts received a fighting major plus a match penalty for deliberate intent to injure. That could have done it right there. Good bye and good riddance!

We just have to feel lucky that he actually didn't injure badly anyone. You just can't take a gamble like this one when you are a NHL/AHL franchise.

According to a story in Wednesday's Springfield REPUBLICAN, Landon did not have a lot to say about Tibbetts. When asked for comment, he said, "He was released, and that's all I'm going to say." Having seen Landon in action several times on the Civic Center concourse, I'm sure it was a very terse, brusque remark. The story also mentioned that Tibbetts was due in court Wednesday for an unrelated matter.
