I guess that's a pretty good indication he's not getting a contract from Anaheim.

I'm still wondering what is going on with Pesonen. I hope he atleast gets a shot to make the team next year.

According to Skate the Plank (wildcat's website),
there is a press conference today in Iowa where the new affiliate to the organization formerly known as the Iowa Stars is expected to be announced.
http://mvn.com/ahl-pirates/2008/05/30/219/

The scheduling is a bit weird, as previously the Iowa franchise stated they would not make any announcements of their future affiliations or potential name changes until after the conclusion of the AHL Calder Cup Playoffs and the NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs, out of respect for both championships.

Yeah,

Today @ 2pm, Iowa is going to make an annoucement.

I'm not sure if they are going to announce the new team name or colors.... I know they've been rushing like crazy to get approvals and all the stuff tied with that.

Here's another story in today's PPH

Quote:
The Iowa Stars are expected to announce at a press conference at the Iowa Events Center that they have become the new affiliate of the Anaheim Ducks, ending Anaheim's three-year affiliation with the Portland Pirates.

Brian Petrovek, Portland's managing owner and chief executive officer, said Monday he soon will reveal plans about his team's future.

"There are plans for me to announce a timeline to make an announcement about our NHL affiliation for next year," he said. "I will be sharing those (plans) as soon as I am ready to share the details. I don't have a definite time and date, but I have a plan."

Why does those comments by Petrovek remind us of 2005 when the essential swapping and the common knowledge that Anaheim was coming here once Washington took their equipment out of Portland that change was inevitable.

It would be nice that Iowa perform due diligence and settle on a name change so all hockey fans can get prepared if they've got to do this within 4 months for marketing purposes

from what I heard, Kevin or have observed, the Stars moniker has been removed from the Iowa website, and now features a stunting splash which directs to the announcement of the Anaheim development contract on the Ducks' home page; as for announcement of a new name, logo, etc. will likely coincide w/ the beginning of NHL Free agency period or the week of Independence Day aka 7/1-7

No team name, colors, or logo will be announced until July, as reported on Ducks website article.

What happened to moving things closer?
