"To You FROM Failing Hands We Throw The Torch, Be Your's To Hold It High"

I'm seeing this more and more on people's signatures.

But, isn't it:

"To You WITH Failing Hands We Throw The Torch, Be Your's To Hold It High"

because, well, why would the torch already be in failing hands as the first one would suggest, doesn't it make more sense that the failing hands are getting thrown the torch for them to rise up, or "to hold it high"

Nitpick I know, but this stuff bugs me, I don't know why.

No. It's FROM. Not with. It's the motto of passing the torch from one generation to the next, not making bad players rise up.

Why would you bother passing the torch if your hands are just fine? And why would you give the torch to someone who's hands are failing?

I used to think it was 'flailing hands', and I was like 'hey, get that flailing torch hand away from me'!

And wouldnt holding a torch while also holding a hockey stick be detrimental to your hockey game? I mean geez... maybe thats why we cant make the playoffs!

Haha...oh man...read this and you'll see why it makes sense to say FROM instead of WITH.

IN FLANDERS FIELDS the poppies blow
Between the crosses row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

No.

The appropriate term, according to rule 274.1(b) of the Internetz lingo geek act (R.S.L. 2002) is:

Pwnt: A contraction of pwned. Whiles its meaning is essentially the same, the word's abrupt ending lends it a terse quality, making it especially suitable for the description of particularly sudden or decisive ownage.

We would have also accepted "pwned" and "ownage".

But thank you for your suggestion.

"with" wouldn't change the meaning of the sentence, but "from" is the historical word in the phrase, so "from" it is.

As soon as I read this post I got a mental image of the Forum Ghosts reciting these words, as the torch is passed to Rejean Houle who is tripping, just about to fall with the fabled torch falling from his hands down to the ground and a caption over Houle's head reading "OOPS!!!".
God I wish I could draw now

Yup, I did. Considering how important it is in our history every Canadian child should memorize it, but I'm guessing there's less and less emphasis on "sad" subjects and more and more on "happy" subjects.

Then everyone wonders why some kids hit high school and get horribly depressed. Duh, sheltered much?

That was Pierre Turgeon, and he dropped it. And everything burned down.

No need to applogize Sawyer, the good thing about coming to a site like this is. No matter how smart you are, you can always learn something everytime you come.
