Sharks win Cup in NHL 08, Rangers top East, Jagr 54 Goals

Rangers (52-21-9) won the East.

we were one game from the Cup Finals.

Quote:
VANCOUVER - The Stanley Cup is headed to San Jose this season, according to a simulation by EA Sports using its made-in-Vancouver NHL 08 video game.

The simulation has the Sharks defeating Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins in six games in the final, with Joe Thornton winning the Conn Smythe Trophy.

The video game has defending champion Anahaeim finishing first in the West at 51-24-7, followed by Colorado (48-26-8), Detroit (46-28-8), San Jose (43-22-17), Vancouver (47-28-7), Calgary (46-27-9), Edmonton (42-31-9) and Nashville (36-28-18).

The Rangers (52-21-9) won the East,
followed by Ottawa (49-26-7), Carolina (44-32-6), Pittsburgh (50-23-9), Tampa Bay (49-24-9), New Jersey (41-27-14), Toronto (41-28-13) and Buffalo (40-28-14).

Montreal was 12th (41-34-7) in the East.

The Sharks' gruelling road to the Cup in the playoffs took them past the Canucks and Red Wings, both in seven games, before dispatching the Oilers in six games in the simulated conference final.

The Oilers downed Colorado in seven games in the first round of the playoffs, then beat Anaheim in six games before losing to the Sharks. Detroit took care of Calgary in six games in the first round.

The simulation had the Penguins downing Tampa Bay in six games, Carolina in five and the Rangers in seven.

Toronto edged Ottawa in seven games to open the playoffs, only to lose to the Rangers in six.

The simulation has Crosby winning the Hart Memorial Trophy as MVP but losing the scoring lead to Tampa's Martin St. Louis by one point. St. Louis finished with 43 goals and 63 assists for 106 points while Crosby had 105 (51-54).

The Rangers' Jaromir Jagr of the Rangers led the league with 54 goals.

Pittsburgh's Sergei Gonchar was named top defenceman with goalie hardware going to Vancouver's Roberto Luongo (Vezina) and New Jersey's Martin Brodeur (Jennings).

Pittsburgh's Michel Therrien was named top coach.

So we have the best record in the East and lose game 7 at MSG?

Logic would dictate that we'd lose in six, not seven.

Logic Shmogic Prediction Presiction

It all means nothing, nobody can predict things out in sports or anything. You can only guess and hope or hope it does or doesn't come true.

I trust the compute simulation's results...

more than I trust most hockey pundits' results.

It will be interesting to see how this cocmpares to the actual season. not just the Rangers part of it.

We need to come back to this thread sometime in late June.....

Yeah, I think that's who it was. I was listening to the online audio broadcast you can pick up from NHL.com every day from 12-2.

No doubt, but if you were to place odds on a conference final between the Rangers and the Penguins at Madison Square Garden, the Rangers would be favored.

That's all I was saying.

Anybody see Melrose on ESP tonight?

He stopped just short of picking the Rangers to win it all.

If i was a Rangers fan i wouldn't be happy if i was told my team would lose in game 7 of the cup finals. You have a championship caliber team. I don't see why anyone would settle for 1 game less than what is realistic.

You wouldn't be happy if your team got the farthest out of 29 other teams and was 1 close to to beating the 30th team?

Maybe you'd be mad that you didn't win the cup right then and there but the next few days "well, we did better then 28 other teams, that's something huh" Almost did it.

Ottawa fans are proud of there players, simply outplayed.

The problem is, the rangers won't get outplayed this year.

DP Will.

I would, but I'm an islanders fan and thats far beyond any realistic expectations. So its completely different

You misunderstand my statement. It's different after the season saying "it was a good year." But you should never say "i'll take it" before the year even starts. That means you are guaranteeing yourself not winning the cup. If this makes any sense.

i dont get it?
