I hate the Dolans, but they are right on this issue. IMO.

The Garden's string of courtroom losses was extended today when a federal court judge ruled in favor of the NHL in MSG's bid to independently control the Rangers' Web site.

The NHL was going to fine the Rangers $100,000 a day unless they complied with league rules mandating that all team Web sites come under the NHL.com umbrella. The Garden sued seeking an injunction to prevent those fines and claiming that the NHL was "acting as an illegal cartel" in forcing all teams to run their Web sites in the same way

Still probably won't change for a while, Rangers have the right to appeal.

In a statement, MSG promised to appeal, saying it still believed the Rangers will be irreparably harmed if the website is left in the NHL's hands.

''This decision is only one step in what will be a very long legal process and we look forward to having the opportunity to present the facts, which support our position,'' MSG said.

Earlier this year, at the start of hockey playoffs, MSG said it increased its competitive offerings by making Rangers-branded merchandise available through the Rangers' website rather than a catalogue, and by making games available to subscribers on its website.

The NHL forced MSG to withdraw the plan by imposing a US$100,000-per-day penalty. When the company refused to pay the fines, the league withheld $200,000 from third-party payments due MSG, MSG said

Law & Order MSG

In our last episode, U.S. District Court judge Loretta Preska resoundingly rejected the Garden's plea for an injunction to prevent the NHL from fining the Rangers $100,000 per day until they complied with league rules mandating that all team Web sites run on the NHL.com platform and conform to a standard format.

Well, Jim Dolan never gives up that easily. And Garden attorneys were back in court this past week asking for a stay of the original order pending their appeal to the Second Circuit Court of Appeals. Judge Preska was even more definitive in her assertion that MSG has no chance of winning the case on its merits.

Still, the Garden will press on with its appeal - the NHL agreed to have it heard on an expedited basis, though that only means three-to-six months down the road. In the meantime, the Garden signed a deal requiring the Rangers move their Web site to the NHL platform no later than Nov. 26.

Until then, the NHL is assessing daily fines of $100,000, which it won't collect unless the Garden fails to abide by that agreement.
I guess we'll have to deal with the NHL version on the Rangers site soon

Has anyone else noticed that since the law suit started, every time the Rangers are in the Frozen Moment on nhl.com, it's Lundqvist getting scored on? Even in games we won, like Tampa and today's against Pittsburgh. I think there was another one, against the Devils maybe.

It's very annoying.

Its actually sort of a compliment... a "Frozen moment" made out of someone scoring on a crappy goalie wouldnt be considered interesting. He lets in few goals, so I guess its a "moment" when he gets scored on!

This really stinks. The Rangers site is actually decent to look at, the generic NHL template is garbage.

Go piss up a rope Gary.

Strudwick scoring an OT winner is a much rarer thing, but you've also gotta think that it should have been Marty holding his #500 puck.

I don't understand anything the NHL does sometimes. If they didn't have two nations of rabid fans to rely on, they'd be so ****ed.

Honestly, the new site looks better than it originally did when it first went up at the beginning of the season. I just don't approve of the "newyorkrangers.com" just thrown onto the banner. If there was a little more work done with the banner design, the new team site would really look much better.

The old team site layout is still active at their "backup" URL: nyrangers.com

Interestingly, http://www.nyrangers.com/ still goes to the old site. I can't imagine that'll last too long, however. I'd read somewhere a couple weeks ago that the Rangers agreed to comply by 11/26, so this isn't a surprise.

The new site is certainly better than it was when it was initially launched, but I still don't think it's nearly as good as the original one. And "Rangers TV" isn't nearly as good as the old "Rangers InDemand" -- not to mention that I couldn't get it to work just now in whatever version of Firefox/Flash I'm using.

It really sucks that they finally gave in, but On Demand is still available, with interviews at Rangers Insider -> Rangers World

I still like the original Rangers site versus the cookie cutters. I'd just send emails to webmaster@nhl.com to complain about the new site.
