I thought Staal wouldve taken a smaller number, but if he plays well in 18 - by all means!

Hopefully we'll see those numbers worn by those 4 guys for a long time. They all seem to "fit" each player

I dont know why but for some reason this news has made me even more friggin excited.

on the jersey numbers topic..

a buddy of mine was at a convention with some co-workers...he needed me to go to his office and open up his safe to get out some paperwork and fax it to him ASAP...he didn't want anybody in the room to know the combo so he whispered real low...Wells, Lidster, karpotsev, Zubov....

only rangers fans....

24-6-5-21...

I used to use Graves, Kovalev, Messier, Leetch, Richter, and Lowe as my lottery numbers.

I kind of like bizzare numbers though. Oh well, it is cool to see these guys as more "permanent" members of the team. Plus 18 is my favorite number... good excuse to pick up a hot and sexy tight jersey in the near future.

Oh well, I guess my #46 Girardi jersey is outdated now. At least I can say I'm one of the original Girardi fans.

I ordered one about a week or so ago with 46 because I was stupid to think he might keep his number. I really didn't think he'd change it. Hope I can get it changed before it is stitched... ULP... I'll keep my fingers crossed.

22 players have won #24, most of them have sucked, hopefully Ryan turns that around.

Also, #5 has had three captains. The only number in Rangers history to have more is #2 with four.
#18 has had one captain (Walt Tkaczuk)
#17 & #24 have had no captains

That's exactly why I've held off getting a Callahan jersey with the 43 on it. It seemed like a very odd number for a mainstay on the team to have.

It's fine having the rookie number. 10 years from now you'll be one of the few who will have a #43 Callahan and you can say, damn right I was a Callahan fan when he was a rookie.

thats the give and take of it, I was much more dissapointed about this than I am now. still the same player, and wont see too many #43's walking around the garden, and I thought it was a kinda cool number as well.

Captains by Numbers
#2 - 4 (Retired)
#3 - 2 (Taken)
#4 - 1
#5 - 3 (Taken)
#6 - 1
#7 - 2 (Retired)
#8 - 2 (Taken)
#9 - 1 (Unofficial Retired)
#11 - 3 (Retired)
#18 - 1
#21 - 1
#26 - 1
#68 - 1 (Taken)
#77 - 1

Of all the Rangers Captain numbers, Staal took one of the few lower numbers which had 1 captain. He took Tkaczuk's number. IMO, I like Defensemen with single digit numbers. He should have taken #4... His 14 without the 1.
