I just commented on him in the 6th Dman topic, and when the page refreshes I see this. That was quick

if we were shopping him, teams new what was up and would put the screws to us.

this is the product of a couple of things i would imagine. the need for a more offensive defenseman in the bottom pairing would be a primary factor. however, the existing salary cap complications paired with the Downie suspension makes this move necessary.

Picard for Gauthier should take 2+M off the books. gotta like that.

Forsberg is a legitimate possibility with that cash.

nice, ill miss his hard hits (i think he was our hardest hitting d-man IMO) but i like the fact that more of a puck moving d-man will take his place

we still need to move a forward for that... cough, umberger, cough cough

But we're now looking at

Timmonen Smith
Hatcher Coburn
Kukkonen Picard

I like it... I like it a lot... Marty Biron is gonna like playing behind those six.

we don't need to move anyone to fit Forsberg with Gauthier gone... one forward would move to create space for Forsberg, but if Forsberg signs a 4M contract starting in January, then it will only be 2M on the cap.

if that happens and Carter is struggling i'm praying they take the 2nd half of the season to give Carter a real look at wing. if Carter is doing fine, then put Forsberg on his wing and give Carter someone who can carry the puck with a bit more patience and distribute.

non-issue for this year... would have been a potential issue for next year.

I really like the idea of Forsberg on Carter's LW, and then whomever it shakes out deserves 2nd line minutes on the right side.

Correct me if I am wrong but for the team that claims him he would only cost $1 million. The Flyers would be on the hook for the other half. For a million I bet he gets claimed and the Flyers only save half his salary off the cap.

To be honest, does anyone really care, its not like it would would the Flyers in financial trouble if he stayed on the phantoms.

I think people don't want him being claimed by someone we're going to play 8 times.

The only thing I have to add to this is that it's going to suck seeing Gauthier 4 times a year once the Canadiens pick him up off of waivers. It's inevitable.

Not really. He could be placed on the fourth line to play center.

That is only if he is put on re-entry waivers after being assigned to the Phantoms. If a team plucks him off of waivers they will be taking the full contract/cap hit.

Also, Baumgartner was waived by Dallas, so I think the Flyers are off the hook of the half of his salary they were paying if he clears.

I am a shocked. The trade market must be brutal when you cant even get a 6th rd pick.
I a hope a team like the Pens donít pick him up. While he isnít a top 4 guy he is a solid bottom pairing guy. What is he making 2.2 this year and next? I wouldnít have waived him yet. Should have waited until at least 2 weeks into the season see if teams have injuries. Seems like a panic move. I would have started the year with 1 less player or 2 if they were up against the cap until it sorted its way out. Dont assume it is Picard taking his spot. Where does this leave Rathje?

I wasn't the one arguing with you, but you didn't call any of this. Sorry.

Only reason they waived him was probably the Downie suspension coupled with Upshall and Umberger injuries.

So does this mean that Picard or Jones made the team?
