I think Renney knows that Strudwick is a great guy off the ice. So he will keep him that way. Pock will sit as well.

The salary works out pretty close too:
Montoya - 1.8
Pock - .68
Mara - 3
Total: 5.48

JovoCop - 6
Could be a done deal. Good or bad?
Eklund link: see the bottom
Will. Never. Happen.

First, Montoya's not going anywhere, because the orginization knows they'd be screwed if Henrik was injured and they had to count on Vally.

Second, it wouldn't even come close to working under the salary cap.

Third, if Eklund says it, there's a 99.9% chance it's utter BS.

Perhaps I'm alone on this one, but I'd almost rather see the following:

Tyutin Girardi
Pock Mara
Strudwick Staal

Not only we need no1, but in a few years other teams will try to get our Ds.

We'd probably get less than 80pts combined from those guys...

Weird. If the Staal pair plays, I'll ask "Where's Mara" and if the Mara pair plays I'd be asking "Where's Staal?"

Jovo is hurt too much. Hasn't played 70 games since 2002. Ballard would be nice but I thought Maloney was building around youth so I don't see him parting with a good young defenseman.

STRUDWICK - Not discounting that he's good in the lockeroom, and a an all-around great tema guy, but what role does he serve w/ this team?

Toughness? (Avery, Cally, Shanny, Hollweg, Orr.... not enough?)
Blueline depth? (Pock, Mara, Staal, he couldn't crack the lineup last year)
Enforcer? (he's a tough guy, but if he's our "enforcer" the true heavyweights will own him)

So what is the real reason for keeping him?

There is absolutely no justifiable reason to play him over Staal, Mara, or Pock.

You are absolutely correct in that there is no reason for him to be on the ice over any of those guys. That said, he's been a good role model for Staal who he's talked to on the bench...giving him pointers and advice.

Which could be the reason they were paired together in practice.

That's true, Levitate...

of course, you're usually paired with the guy who will be your partner.

I hate guessing. Too many ways to spin these things. Mara could've had a bad preseason and Renney wants to sit him to let him reflect. Mara's hurt and can't go. It's Strudwick and Staal who are sitting, not Mara and Pock. Who knows. I sure don't.

Prucha-Dubi-Cally has been a line high on many wishlists but have they actually played any preseason games together? Maybe I just missed it...

I'm sure there will be some degree of tweaking before Thursday. If the lines stay like that though I'm going to have to pat myself on my back a little along with a few of you who guessed at these lines..

Still think I'd prefer Avery on the 3rd line. The problem is that Prucha and Shanny never really clicked last year. But maybe with Gomez centering things would be different.

to make room for pock?? absolutely not...to try to acquire a good veteran that can take staal under his wings and solidify the blueline? yes

and i wouldn't be so quick to just dump these 'extra' dmen. pock might not be in the lineup to start the year but guaranteed someone will get hurt during the year and not only will we use #7 & #8 at some point, but will also most likely dip into hartford for #9, 10 and 11.

at the moment everyone is healthy and there is no room. but later in the year we might need these guys.

it's not so much as dumping them as trading quantity for quality. if we deal 2 for 1, we'll still have enough bodies, and should someone get injured maybe Sauer or Baranka are ready to play. If not, there's always strudwick. But the key is to improve the overall quality of our D, and that can be done since we have plenty of guys.

Yes I believe they played one (The NYI game at home). Dubinsky and Callahan looked good together and Dubi a playmaker can only benefit Prucha.

Is it me, or is thursday taking a long, god damn time to get here?

Let the run for the Cup begin already.

I just took a 5 minute major for beating on myself.

Consensus?

I say "choose your words wisely" and you merely offer "consensus" as your support? Perhaps we ought to send you to the minors for a little forum board seasoning.

I've got news for you, 75% of the population is irrational. So, you now know where I expect you to take your consensus.

Why not start with what makes Rozsival our consensus best defenseman...
