Final Cuts....

From espn.com (courtesy of ClarkeIsGoneDotCom)

Assigned defensemen Denis Gauthier and Alexandre Picard, center Ryan Potulny and right wings Boyd Kane and Stefan Ruzicka to Philadelphia of the American Hockey League.

Guenin and Tolpeko make the team outright.

http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/transactions

I said in another thread that Picard was taken off the Flyers roster. I thought they were just updating because he changed his number, but he is changing the color of his uniform to purple.

Well h old on a sec... Ruzicka did not do a whole lot playing with Gagne and Danny. Potulny was injured. Tolpenko played very steady.

I think time is running out on Ruzicka. He'll get a few more chances, but his long term future with the team is in as much doubt as it's ever been.

Picard didn't play well enough to stay up and Tolpeko was playing all out in the games I saw of him, something Ruzicka rarely does, so I am glad he gets to stay up if it was a choice between the two.

I'd much rather see Picard, Potulny, and Rosie logging quality minutes in the AHL than back of the lineup time with the Flyers. Guenin over Picard leaves a hole on the PP, but in the long run I think this pays off.

I really like what Guenin has shown this preseason, but i'm not sure that the demension he adds over Picard is the right thing for this team. I think Picard with a full season under his belt would quite easily break 30 pts, and that's nothing to scoff at. I guess we'll see how it plays out

Tolpeko was down right impressive in the last 2 games. I suppose he's playing on Richard's wing until Upshall and/or Umberger return?

what are our line like now?

Gagne-briere-knuble
Hartnell-Richards-Kapanen
Eager-Carter-???
Tolpeko-dowd-Boulerice

we still seem to be 1 forward short. When are lupul/umberger suposed to be back?

EDIT. Is Cote still up?

Timo-Smith
Hatcher-Coburn
Kukkonen-Guenin
Jones

Still not enough O from this

Our lineup looks brutal without Lupul and Upshall

I read from Timmay that Cote, Dowd, and Boulerice all made the team. My conjecture is that Boulerice or Cote will on most nights be the 13th forward. Maybe Cote goes back down to the Phantoms once Upshall/Umberger return

this is pretty confusing to sort out right now

Im happy that now Eager can focus on other elements of his game now that we have both Cote and Boulerice. I think we are going to lead the league in fights this year.

Eager
Cote
Boulerice
Smith
Richards
Upshall

will all fight.

I think I read somewhere that Lupul skated yesterday and may be cleared to play on thursday.

Timonen - Smith
Hatcher - Coburn
Kukkonen - Guenin
Jones

I'll take a stab at thursday's team:

Gagne - Briere- Knuble
Hartnell - Richards - Kapanen
Eager - Carter - Tolpeko/Lupul
Cote - Dowd - Coulerice/Tolpeko

maybe???

I just think the lines might work out with him having the "worse" linemates for a while with these injuries

Really don't understand the Picard/Guenin decision at all. Our offensive production from the blueline is going to be horrific.

Lupul will be there, and Richards will be 3rd line center. Looks like:

Gagne-Briere-Knuble
Hartnell-Carter-Lupul
Eager-Richards-Kapanen
Tolpeko-Dowd-Cote/Boulerice

Smith-Timonen
Hatcher-Coburn
Kukkonen-Guenin

I'm kind of disappointed about Picard being demoted. Might be a good thing for him though. Having him, Parent, and Bartulis play boat loads might be the best thing. As for Guenin, he's going to be in a real limited role, so I have no qualms with that.

I'm still very high on Potulny and he should also get lots of ice time with the Phantoms. Maybe if Downie's allowed to play, he and Steve could get a chance to be linemates and develop some chemistry.

Tolpeko and Guenin

Looks like they both made the team with some solid preseason play and will be on the plane to the west coast.

Don't know too much about either of them...

All I could find on Tolpeko: http://www2.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/...Denis_Tolpeko/

Thoughts? I think they both earned a shot.

How long do they hang around?

Richards has played most of the preseason with Hartnell. It was a good combo and i'd be surprised to see it broken up
