Calling up Monty for a half dozen NHL stars?

What do you think of the Rangers occasionally calling up Monty to start in the NHL?

Vally would start against average and good teams, but Monty can start 5 games or so against weaker teams or teams that have several offensive players injured.

It would give Monty a few NHL starts to get major league experience without too much pressure either psychological or on the ice.

It he's still here in April, we should also let him start the last 2-3 games when our playoff spot is locked up and we can't move up or down.

he'd only count against the cap for the time that he is in ny. so if he's called up before the games and sent back down the cap hit will be minimal.

I'd rather give him all the starts for the first half of the season in Hartford, and assuming he's solid, call him up to backup Henrik for the second half. That might work cap wise.

He would play 60 in Hartford and another 6-8 in the NHL. That's very manageable. Great volume of games and some NHL experience.

As for the cap impact, having him in the NHL for a total of about one week would hit us for about $30K.

According to Yahoo (which didn't provide a link, just a quote), Lundqvist has told the Rangers he wants to play all the games for the Rangers this season. Take that for whats its worth but if that happens Monty wouldnt be playing at all.

Lundqvist can say what he wants but Renney should be fired if Lundqvist plays every game...seriously...this guy needs to be healthy and it was just two seasons ago that he broke down...

lundqvist said he'd like to play all 82 games, but in the very next sentence said that he knows that that isn't realistic...its like a guy saying 'i expect to win every night' that doesn't mean he seriously thinks he'll go 82-0

thats the way to do it.

Give him the bulk in the AHL and have him backing up in Feb and Mar in the NHL if possible...

Hell, if we have a really good season and are comfortably in the playoffs come the ned of the regular season, let Henrik rest upand split time between MOntoya and Vally. Rest Henrik here and there and manage him perfectly...
