Man, I knew the Stars were having a bad start, but I didn't know it was quite that bad.
I'm going with a 3-2 game either way, thats usually the average score when these two teams play.
I hope Sauve starts tonight too. He deserves a few more games, and with the way Aebischer has been playing as of late he deserves a night off or two before he is completely burnt out before the playoffs.
I wouldn't count on him to score even if he was in the lineup .
I could see Bill Guerin having an OK night though.
Amen about Modano..
Nah, Bill won't have a big night either. He's a horrible floater when he's not scoring and isn't as physical as you'd think.
Even though we'll lose, look for the center battle between Arnie and Turgeon, both are competing for the minutes now with Mo out. Lehtinen, Morrow, Ott and DiMaio will probably be the only forwards that actually will be noticeable..
Nice fall by Ott there that lead the the Stars 3rd PP. All in all, an okay game. I would like to see more offensive action, but there has been little of that with 8 mins ofthe game being on the PP. Hopefully, there will be some more flow in the second period.
I can't help but chuckle at this. The Stars are being outplayed in all areas of the game. They are not responding to adversity very well this year at all, at all. What is it going to take to get them to wake up? I thought they were turning it around, but they are being just pummled right now.
Well, despite winning 4-2 and being up 4-0 at one point, I can't help but be disappointed by how the Avs played. Even though they led 1-0 in the 1st period, they played awful. They only had 5 shots on goal and only scored on a very nice shot by Hejduk off the post. Takes a bit of luck too. Having 5 PP opportunities in the 2nd to 0 PP opportunities for the Stars was the main difference. Some nice puck movement to score the goals I'll give them that. That was the only decent period of hockey the Avs played. The 3rd was just pitiful. 0 shots on goal?! How they let Young waltz in and burst through the middle untouched and score during the Star's PP is beyond me. On the Arnott goal, again he was left open to get a point blank shot on Abby. They played an extremely lazy 3rd period and just sat back thinking they didn't need to show up with a 4-0 lead. This all comes back to that lack of a killer instinct. Look at what Montreal did to Pittsburgh. Up 4-0? Who cares? Keep attacking and they ended up with an 8-0 win. The Avs really like to make things interesting late in a game. They made this game much harder than it had to be by playing so passively.
Guess it says how bad the Stars are this season when the Avs show up to play for 20mins. and win it 4-2. On the bright side, the Avs should be fresher for the back-to-back against Chicago tomorrow night.
