Mara??

Is he in Renny's doghouse already? I dunno, I get the impression Renny either doesn't like his style of play or doesn't trust him. Anyone else get that impression...eh? Shame IMO, cause he has some pretty good offensive skills combined with some physicallity. And like last night, he's one the few Rangers who'll come to his teamates defense. Call me nuts but I think if he got #1 PP time, he'd do as good if not better than Rozy....thoughts?

18 minutes of icetime and he's in the doghouse!?

He's not on the PP cause we don't use the slapper on the PP, its Jagr's show.

I don't know where you're getting that from. Mara logged just about the same amount of icetime as any other defensemen last night, and has been paired with the Rangers inexperienced stud prospect. Obviously that's Renney showing that he has a lot of confidence in him.

As for the PP, why should he get it over Rosy? Rosy is our best offensive defenseman and has been on the first PP unit for a while now. You're finding controversy where none exists.

And one of the few Rangers who'll stick up for his teammates? That's all this team did during the preseason. Orr, Hollywood, Dubinsky, Strudwick, Shanny, Drury, etc. There are very few guys on this roster who you'll never see mixing it up.

Mara also would have have even more icetime last night if he didn't get hit with that ridiculous double minor.

Rozsival moves the puck better than Mara (usually), while Mara has a heavier shot. All in all, Rozsival's skills work better on the 1st unit PP

1 game is not enough time to designate someone into the doghouse anyway.

Especially since there has been so many changes this year - and last night was only his 20th regular season game with the Rangers.

Give him some time, give everyone some time before we get into this stuff.

I'm really not impressed with what Mara has to offer in the defensive zone... Frankly I hope he's not on the team next season....

I think all our D man were great last night.. so....

Mara - upped his physical play A LOT (liked that A LOT)
Tyuts/Girardi - solid D. enough said.
Malik/Rosi - good defensively, above average offensively
Staal - 1st game bloopers but otherwise good credit, good game.

Go figure....only yesterday I bring up this thread about Renny not exactly being enamored with Mara and him maybe being in doghouse....some of you guys ultimatly convincing me "nothing to see here" and yet only tonight he's scratched. I'm tellin ya....Renny can't stand the guy for some reason and I wouldn't be suprised if Mara is gonzo by end of month. Sucks IMO, cause like I said, he has some pretty darn good skills with the occassional bonehead decision but he's far better than Malik and Renny apparently luvs him. I dunno....a bit vexed at tonights benching...that's all

Mara's like Malakhov...

he has a good deal of talent, but doesn't realize that talent on the ice enough. I only saw one preseason game and part of another - thought Mara was horrific in that one preseason game (when he was paired with Baranka). My guess is Renney saw some of the loafing that sometimes comes with his game and wanted to nip things in the bud early in the season so Mara knows he will be benched if he loafs.

It would be nice if we could get the point shot/screen going as a threat on the PP. I remember that was a major void last year.

Mara is on the way out. For Jovo to come in. This is Renney prejustifying it.

maybe mara for cooke, id rather that happens with the loss of avery for a month. sather has been rumored to like cooke from the past, and he would help on the PK.

I wouldnt trade Mara he is the best point-shot threat on the blueline, and considering we got him for Aaron Ward his trade value probably isn't very high.

Matt Cooke? Comeon what do we need him for?

Explain to me why every year a defenseman who is a regular is on the way out?
Mara played more minutes than Girardi last year. He was one of the major reasons we made the playoffs. All of a sudden Girardi is ahead of Mara in the beginning of this year? He gets only 18 minutes of icetime is not on the powerplay and is scratched against the Senators for a defenseman who should not be in the NHL. What is going on here? Do they have a trade for him or is he injured?
