man it looks like the Avs took it to the Stars for a hard fought win. I have no idea how this one will pan out.

Did everyone notice that neither Colorado nor Detroit sold out their home opener? Makes our situation for tonight not look so bad (but it doesn't bode well for season attendance).

My hate for the Avs is as strong as ever.

Mason and the team comes out flat in the first but turns things around and ends up winning 3-2, Arnott with the game winner.

First of all, nice GDT! Its nice to see this thread again.

Finally, the puck drops for real. We've worried about off the ice stuff all offseason. We'll likely be worried about things when we go to the arena.

But once the puck drops, we can focus on that.

As for the game, I think this will be a tough one for us. Teams are always a bit rusty their first game and after the roster turnover this offseason, I expect alot of sloppiness.

The Avs offense packs a mean punch; we'll have a very hard time keeping them off the scoresheet. We'll really need the PP to step up, as we'll have a hard time getting even strength goals.

I can see us easily losing by 2 or more goals unfortunately.

On tv last night it looked like there were a ton of empty lower bowl seats in the Air Canada Center also.

I know we always get called out on any empty seat we have and its frustrating, especially when there is a double standard, but lets not become like other posters on these boards. In fact, I fully believe it is part of what is wrong with hockey, the cannibalistic fans and the fans that still believe that cities aren't worthy of the NHL's presence.

The difference between their empty seats and ours, is that their's are paid for.

Lets worry about making 14k paid attendance and enjoy what might be our last season of NHL hockey in Nashville...

What are the lines looking like?

Here's what the Avs have done:

Smyth-Sakic-Hejduk
Hlinka-Stastny-Brunette
Wolski-Arnason-Laperriere
Smith-Guite-Svatos

Hannan-Clark
Sauer-Leopold
Liles-Skrastins

While the offense is clicking, we looked miserable on the PK last night. Budaj looked great at EV, but is prone to making the mistakes of a young goaltender.

We gotta stop Statsny and Burnette, they owned the Stars. I think, more than ever, a winning start to the season is necessary.

Well, I caved in and got the HDTV package.....and I have to say, it takes hockey to a new level. If anyone is on the fence, it is worth it.

I'm not sure we pull this one out. I like Colorado's team this year, and I expect them to make it past the first round of the playoffs. The addition of Ryan Smyth and Scott Hannan, along with a full season out of Jordan Leopold is going to make them VERY dangerous and much more responsible defensively (which they were not last year). Paul Stastny is just flat out awesome, a tremendous second round selection at the time, a tremendous player already. He was brilliant last night in dallas.

When you have a first line with Smyth-Sakic-Hejduk, a second line of Brunette-Stastny-Hlinka (and man Hlinka has some great hands and Brunette is money besides Stastny), and a third line with snipers like Wolski and Svatos.........your in for a shootout. Lets hope our defensive schemes will work better this year, but with the way Trotz has the offensive players spread out.......I just do not see it tonight.

3-1 Avs.

You have to first stop Sakic, Smyth and Hejduk.

Good luck. Defense is still our achilles heel though.

Is anyone else a little leary of ortmeyer and fiddler being "top six" forwards? This baffles me.

you and anyone with a brain had to know this was coming WHEN Leipold gave Poile NOTHING to work with and the trades occured ... it sucks to see us paying absolutely NO ONE to come in and fill the void that Sullivan has left ... couldn't coerce/convince Hornqvist to stay over here at least until December ... btw irisheyes ... good job on the GDT again

So, think Gelinas, Bonk, Ortmeyer or de Vries can impress us like Dumont did within a minute last season?

Who wouldn't be leary of having two fourth liners playing significant roles on their scoring lines?

ACC was sold out. During the first few minutes of each period the lower bowl is empty as the "suits" are down in the lounge eating and drinking.

Man, I'm glad this day has finally arrived. That was the longest, most miserable summer of discontent that any hockey fan should ever be forced to endure.

Two quick questions:

How many tickets left for tonight?

Is Budaj expected to get the start again tonight or the backup?

here is the image i have for the preds home sweaters. the problem is i got it from nhl.com/preds and the away ones are much smaller. you can view the away ones in a larger size but only under flash(i.e. can't save picture). so does anyone out there know of a site that has the new styles( of the same size). or conversely know if a way to save a flash image?
