What do you think will happen with him after the season. I know its early in the season but I tend to like him and worry about if hell be back next year. Do you think there's any way the rangers will be able to afford him and maybe come to an agreement on an extension during the year.

I don't think this is a repeat thread...

I think he's the best all-round defenceman on the team, though I keep hoping to see more from Toots, which I don't think I will. I don't know that he's going to be a break-the-bank type of player in the offseason, though. He's not a de-facto #1 by anyone's estimation, so, though he might well get some good offers, if he and the Rangers are both smart, I think he'll get well paid to carry on his sweet deal in New York.

Anyone know why the Pens let him go back to the Czech Republic in the first place? Seems like a bad move with hindsight...

Roszival's play has been suspect in the defensive zone in the 1st 2 games this year. Hopefully he shakes it off. He was one of our best last year.

Malik is better then he get's credit for, I just wish he would hit more.

Sauer may very be ready next season if not mid-season this season.
Sanguinetti is not too far behind. He is looking to have a Staal-esque senoir season in the junoirs. I like my dream blue line for next season is...

Redden-Staal
Tyutin-Girardi
Sauer-Sanguinetti

and by dream, those players all play super well. and by super well, i mean they win a stanley cup.

I tend to like Malik's play. That's not because of his 3 assists. It's because I think he is decent for his size. Although, hitting would be a big plus.

Well, Redden is going to cost bigger bucks than Rosy...probably close to 7m. And I think Sangs will be on the cusp next year, but will need a season in the A before he debuts in '09. That said, Sauer could very well make the team out of camp. I'd be happy with 4 of 6 being home grown guys.

I agree, Malik does not hit @ all, there have been times in the past he could have leveled guys & always pulls up. I'd rather see him hit much much more for his size.

It's a little late to hope that Malik will suddenly do something that he's never done in his career. What you see is what you get.

All I know is that, right now, Tyutin and Girardi look like studs...they both seem to have taken the next step in their respective developments. If they continue to show this kind of progress, and Staal shows that he's capable of being a solid NHL D-man, I would not be surprised if the Rangers don't immediately cave in to Roszival's salary demands, if they appear too expensive.

Nah, we wouldn't want to sign Redden. I mean if we signed Redden no matter what the outcome is this year we'd again be "buying our cup".

Anyway that D would be awesome, with Sangu and Staal on PP points I can see killer puck movement with a great slap by Sangu.

I don't get what your laughing about?
Malik is fine. He's better then most of our D and a good majority of other defenseman in the league, he has bad days and good days and so does everyone. If you want to point fingers in last nights play, Malik certainly isn't the first to be stared upon. Take a look at your star vets who can't seem to MOVE as if they were just crushed by a truck.

It depends what he's asking for. If he goes Nylander, then he'll not be back.

I personally wouldnt mind resigning ( if the price is right ) him if he has a good season. Maybe a 1 year contract second year option. Since last season i have been quit happy with the guy.

We all know NYR is not going to have a combo of 2 rookies on defense. Sauer and Sanguinetti. But it looks nice, i would love to see Sauer in the line up though. This kid is going to be a bull, just looks very strong and solid on his skates, my opinion atleast.

I do love the combo of Staal and Redden (if NYR is able to sign him).the more solid Staal becomes the more intense that pairing would be.

Plus what other defenseman are free agents next year. Cause NYR will need a solid shut down tyoe of dman, even if NYR does sign Redden. Maybe adding a Klemm type player, cheap and reliable and a good vet for the team.

Malik is decent, but is by no means a top 4 dman. When watching that game against FLA, notice two of his assists were bs. And he still made dumb turn overs as always. He's a decent dman, but shouldn't be seeing the ice as much as he does.

About two of his three assists, one was a shot that happened to bounce into the slot and land on some ones stick and the other was a blind back hand pass that luckily found Prucha's stick. I HIGHLY doubt he knew what he was doing when he did it.

Oh, and I completely forgot to address to topic of the thread. I like Rozi alot. It's a tough issue though with all the young talent we have coming up. Malik won't be back next season and I'm not too sure about Mara. We're going to need SOME vets on the d to make sure the young guys are in check.
