He should be, he got handled pretty easily by Strudwick who is no heavyweight.

The hit was clean, Avery just didn't see it coming. Elbow came up after contact. Avery will be looking for revenge later in the season I'm sure.

4 weeks?

that's actually not to be bad considering it's a shoulder...

Well, let's hope he can come back sooner than that. In the meanwhile, bring up Dawes or shift in Hossa. Depth = a good thing.

Better not bring up Dawes. Hossa is a lot more useful.

Holweg for Avery

What do people think about putting in Holweg for some of Avery's shifts because alot of people see them as fairly similar players

I'd rather play Hossa with Jagr and move Straka down.

Hollweg has Avery's grit but none of Avery's hockey ability or offensive skills.

Even when he gets back, I will be terrified each time he goes in for a check.

4 weeks is tough, but it might be a blessing in disguise. We get to take a look at Hossa, and perhaps Dawes, and Avery will be that much fresher for the stretch run.

I wouldn't want Hollweg to take any of Avery's shifts

I wouldn't want Hollweg to take any of Avery's shift. I think the "energy" guy that Hollweg is made out to be is so overated. I'll admit it funs to watch him run other people but he never scores and takes stupid penalties. He's not a good fighter and when he starts to run other players they start to run our players. He can't kill penalties.

Hollweg's biggest contribution as a Ranger was taking Simons stick to his face. He may have won us that game, but I remember a flyer game where he ran umberger and took a 5 minute major and I think they scored twice and it was game over.

I like having Orr on the team and see his role and would rather have another fighter on the team. There was a reason why Hollweg was a scratch for the playoffs.

Just hoping that Hollweg gets a 20 game "downie" suspension

Four weeks until he sees the ice in practice or four weeks until he dresses to play?

I think that would be a terrible idea. First of all, IMHO, Avery shouldn't be a 2nd liner. Talent wise, he's not a top 6 forward. That's not to say he doesn't have skills. But he's much better suited to 3rd line duty. So to take a guy like Hollweg and slide him into that slot would be a disaster...as Hollweg is barely a 4th line player talent wise.

Welcome to the forums.

4 weeks before he plays. He can practice in a week or two. He has to be 100% before he can get hit again or he risks re-injuring it.

Well, it could have been alot worse. You always have to worry when the shoulder just droops like that.

And by the way, the hit was clean. I wish we'd see more hits like that. Obviously I don't want anyone to get injured - especially someone as important as Avery - but I also like to see the type of plays that make the game so great. And I would take Neil on the Rangers in a second.

+1

Totally agree. This could be an interesting turn if someone steps up in the next month.

I had a stage 3 seperation (almost, but not quite, dislocated), and that arm was useless for a while. Being a pro athlete with the NYR training staff working on him, I bet he's back at practice in two weeks, playing ion 3-4. Good thing we have ~7 days off in the next 14 or so.

To be objective, it was a clean, hard hit. Avery just fell in a bad way. It wasn't the hit that did a number on him, it was the fact that he was caught with his head down, unbraced, and that he was a sitting duck. The fact that he didn't go back at Neil is not a good omen. And he looked just like Jagr did against NJ in the '06 playoffs. Hopefully it was a strain or hyperextension, even a broken humorous is better than a badly separated shoulder.
