Are you implying the Panthers weren't hit by big injuries? Cause the fact that Bertuzzi played, oh, 7 games all season for us I'm sure means nothing. Or Nieuwendyk retiring. Roberts, Mezei, Stumpel, Weiss, Auld (blessing in disguise).

About the only guys who made it through all 82 games were Jokinen, Horton, Bouwmeester, Gelinas, and Salei. Belfour didn't get injured either, but you can't say we didn't have bad luck with injuries. Losing Bertuzzi and Newy alone really hurt the offense.

Jokinen should be traded to the Oilers so that he can continue to miss the playoffs?

So the way to make the playoffs is to trade your best forward, by a lot, for young players who will never come close to being as good as him?

Its worse than Luongo trade... a top 10 C in the league, our captain, our #1 goal scorer, our #1 points, for 3 players just as good as our 3rd liners. This is 10 times worse than Luongo for Bertuzzi. Atleast with Bertuzzi he was an above average player.. regardless of the injury value-wise Bertuzzi > any of those 3 players.

Are you seriously trying to say these two teams were similar last season? Are you KIDDING me? Sure both were ranked 12th, but we were 6 points out of the playoffs at 86 points, Edmonton was 25 points out of the playoffs at 71 points. We had 15 points more than EDM.

There is no way I do this trade if I'm Florida, this is god awful, and I feel bad for the Oilers fans, because they're a generally smart fanbase when it comes to this kind of thing.

The only way Florida trades Jokinen is if he demands a trade, or his production severely drops off. Even if one of those scenarios comes about, they'll get far more in return than that.

They trade a top-flight center for a 20-goal grinder, a center who has had one good season, and a young defender who might be the best player in Edmonton's package one day. Still not nearly enough to convince anyone with a brain to trade Jokinen away.

not sure why you are tossing Bertuzzi into the comparison?

as I said

FLORIDA would not do the deal with a gun to their head

I guess the fact that his team has been atrocious every year doesn't play into the equation.

Yeah, maybe a package of Cogliano and Gagner might work...

As are most trade proposals for star players, this one is quantity for quality.

boy, santa does not exist. Seriously though, Hemsky and pitkanen would have to be included instead of gilbert and torres. You add to that 2008 1rst round pick, and 2009 first round pick, and maybe jaques martin will start listening to you. And don't forget the cap, this trade makes no sense.

Torres is a potential second liner. Horcoff is a potential first liner.

Jokinen IS a first line center, and one of the top 10 centers in the league.

Notice any difference? If we were talking about Cogliano, or Gagner, potential matters. But it means **** when we're talking about a 26 year old forward coming off a 15 goal season and a 29 year old center who has scored over 51 points twice in his seven year career.

Want Jokinen? Want Kovalchuk? Better start with Gagner and put together a package that has at least two top young players. The reality of the situation is that because the value of a young superstar like Kovalchuk, or a top 10 center in the league like Jokinen, is so high that they won't get traded.

The only player I'd want on the Panthers is JayBo... the rest of them can rot and wallow in the bottom of the SE division - thanks to the fantastic goaltending of Vokoun (.816 SV%)

JayBo (RFA soon)

for

Pitkanen (RFA soon)
Cogliano or Torres (speed young forward or physical forward).

No I don't want your Kovalchuks and your Jokinen. I prefer my Horcoffs and Torres' more. I'm just stating that both Horcs and Torres are better than what some people state them as.
