JOVO has zero value with that contract. I'm pretty sure the Yotes would give him away just to move in a different direction and free up the space. I love Jovo but the cap hit is the big issue. 50-60 games of Jovo is much better then anything we have now. He's the fix on the PP we desperately need with that big shot. He does the little things well and is an all around top tier d-man. 4 yrs @ $7 mill is the problem.

Jovonavski

The Coyotes dont have an idiot for a GM anymore and Maloney knows Sather better than any other GM in the NHL- hes not giving up Jovo without getting something substantial in return- and by the way this Coyotes team is looking- he is probably looking for picks in the draft with the salary dump just being apart of the deal because it has to...if he gets Malik and say Mara in the deal, i wouldnt be surprised, unless by some unbelievable occcurance where the yotes are fighting for playoffs, if they were dealt somewhere for even more picks/prospects.

As for Jovo- i watched him last night when the Yotes played the Bruins. He looked ALOT better and healthier than he did last year. He was a physical presence on the blue line and can skate like no other...plus he provides a great shot on the point- i dont know if hes worth 7 million dollars but he is certainly better than having Malik or Rozsival as our number 1 and 1A dmen

Thats so much, maybe Malik, Dawes, 2nd or 3rd, but he's old as hell, don't want him.

E****d was on XM earlier this morning and was insistant that this deal was going to happen. The names he threw out as going the other way were Rozsival, Prucha and Montoya, which only proves to me that he's full of it because the numbers don't add up to work for either team's salary cap issue (Pheonix is barely at the minimum cap). And there's no way Jovo's worth those three players, not even close. In fact the mere suggestion made me laugh out loud.

My old buddy Eklund says it will go down like this (e5):

Mara (3,0)
Malik (2,5)
Prucha (1,6)
Montoya (0 - at the moment)
TOTAL SALARY = 7,100,000 USD

for

Jovocop (6,5)
Auld or Tellquist (600 k to 800 k)
Higher pic or prospect (0) (Hanzal, Wheeler, Jones or Yadle?)

Basically a break even deal in other words. (But - Leaving Montoya out and the Phoenix prospect pic out is desireable by New York - but Maloney wants him as part of the package)
Vally would be sent down (nullifying the cap hit of a goalie) and The Rangers would have a better solution as backup keeper.
Moving up Dawes to replace Prucha would also then cost about 500.000 USD

It is therefore in theory definitely possible cap wise

Short term - it may pay off - but is a very BIG RISK imo
Long term - a very heavy cap hit to carry for far too long

Hmmmmmm - It may go done - but I hope it does not

total cap hit is then only at about 500 - 700 thousand 2007/2008. Well within limits with todays 23 man roster (less bonuses) - but would presumabely add some cap hit next year after paying out bonuses to Shanny, Girardi & Staal

Thats an awful trade. Sather would never do that.

Donnie wants kids from the pack. He would have to take ONE roster D man but he's not taking two.

Mara / Malik > Jovo

Prucha > Hanzal

Montoya >=< Auld /Tellquist

Rangers fans should hope this is just hot air. Considering the sources, I'd say that's a good guess. But if this is in any way true it is bad news for you guys. Jovo is not the man he once he was, and it is doubtful he can return to that form. Add the fact that he is in a huge long-term contract and you're playing with fire. While New York may need to bolster their D a bit, trading for Jovo is not the answer. Save those assets for somethng better.

That's a horrible deal for us. We've played two games and have a GAA of 2.0. Not exactly time to abandon ship.

And if the Rangers trade Malik and Mara for 1 defenseman, they're leaving a very weak 3rd pairing at the moment. Mara-Staal is much preferable to Pock/Strudwick-Staal

If the Rangers acquired Jovo they should keep Malik, they had good chemistry together in Vancouver.

I think if we are going to dump Mara's salary we should try to sign Danny Markov. Try and get him to take a one year deal that fits into our cap with the verbal agreement to pay him more down the road. I don't think dealing Malik and Mara for Jovanovski is a good deal, the finances barely work and Jovanovski isn't very good right now.

Maybe, but he has pretty good chemistry with Rozsival too and still manages to stink it up way too much. It's not really a matter of that anyway, Malik is just not a 1st pairing defenseman. He's way too unreliable to be in that role

That's for sure. Jovo-Malik were on the 2nd pairing and Ohlund, Salo and Allen got the majority of the PK time so Malik was pretty sheltered.

So, let me get this straight. Sather is not happy with the blueline depth, so you want to trade 2 defenseman in return for 1? I dont quite understand that, especially considering that, statistically speaking, Malik and Roszival are among the best defense pairings around. I know most Ranger fans hate Malik thanks to his occassional brain-farts, but the guy does work well with Rosy and the Jagr unit. I dont think Jovanovski is worth screwing with that type of chemistry, especially at 4 years at 6.5 per. Thinking longterm, this deal has disaster written all over it.

As for Dawes, it continues to bewilder me that some fans believe he would be of any worth to another organization.

IMO Eklund's credibility >>> Garroich. That guy seriously just prints anything. I think he's had like 2, TWO things go his way in the last 5 years.

Prucha and Montoya? Huge pass. not for Albatross Salary man. Unless we are getting Jovo circa 2002, he isn't exactly the player I envision putting us over the top but I couldn't really say. He is putting top minutes in Phoneix and I do love his nickname.

Given the Rangers' cap situation...

Any deal for Jovo would have to include significant salary going the other way. Further, when you begin to think about next year, it gets interesting because there will be players that need to be re-upped at higher salaries, UFAs you may want to look at, and the potential for bonuses for this year being paid next season. He's just too expensive no matter how it's looked at. The Rangers decided to go top-heavy at forward (not surprising). Sather values offense more than defense (especially with Lundqvist in goal). I have serious doubts he pays up for Jovo.

Jovanovski to Rangers makes zero sense. Zero. He's overpaid/overrated and we don't have the caproom. Not even close. Why would we trade for an albatross?

I don't think acquiring Jovo is possible for one reason alone.

He makes 6.5 million per season.

Drury and Gomez will be making 7 million per season (rounded) each.

Hank will probably get a raise at years end and will probably make about 5 million per.

Thats 25.5 million per season, wrapped up in 4 players for another (minimum) 3 years.

With a 50 million dollar cap, you cant wrap up half of it on 4 players. It's just not feasable.
