The Islanders playing in the Devils arena.

I heard it discussed on the radio as I was driving home last night.

But they were hypothesizing with the Islanders needing a new home soon, could the Islanders playing in New Jersey work. They thought it would be more feasible than getting a new arena in Long Island or playing in the new Nets arena in Brooklyn.

I had never heard the idea. It's not an ideal scenario for the Islanders but maybe a convient one.

Don't know, seems like a lot of travel assuming the majority of their season ticket holders are spread out about on long island. Especially in winter time

That and at first glance, even, it seems like a pretty bad idea.

It would never work

I'm so over the Isles and their arena troubles, the people of Long Island didn't even want a new arena, no need to bring your troubles to NJ.

Not necessarily true, they did not want too add More money to their property taxes to fund an new arena. (their taxes are among the highest in the US already). the county is already close to bankruptcy, so another location or a developer will have to step up.

Bottomline, Wang has to either scale down his real estate venture or sell to someone in the area that wants to build an arena and other small development building at the site.

But to say the voters don't want a new arena is far from the truth, they don't want to fund it

Tell me about it... People don't even show up to Devils games in Jersey. Why would they go to Isles games?

Horrible idea... wouldn't work for the fans at all the commute to NJ from Long Island is horrible during rush hour.

Not to mention all the other issues.

Last in the league for attendance the Islanders are.

What's that saying ? If you live in a glass house...

83.3 percent fill rate in Newark including the two winter games that noone could get to with mass transit shut down.

Isles with a whopping 67.9

It might work THIS season if there's no NBA, but when the Nets come back there'll be, what, three sports teams active at the same time with +40 home games each? Prudential Center books events other than sports, so trying to find time for the Devils/Isles/Nets would be a nightmare. There would have to be a lot of matinees/double headers. Not to mention the terrible ice conditions caused by double usage and constantly changing the surface. And I'm not from the tri-state area but I'm pretty sure Long Island is a considerable commute from Newark and the Isles have problems drawing as is.

I don't think the location would really be fair to most Isles fans, it could work for a year or two though if the Isles were guaranteed to have another arena being constructed somewhere.

The only way i could see this maybe, kinda sorta working, is NJ being forced to allow this because of their recent financial troubles.

But i'm not sure about the specifics of the Devil's situation so i wont say anything else about it.

Even if the Devils were desperate for revenue, the Nassau Coliseum is like 85 miles away from the Prudential Center. I dont know about you guys but if all of a sudden, the Blackhawks moved 85 miles further away from me i dont think i'd go to as many games.

Isles in Prudential Center=Unlikely

Isles fans would at least be able to get there by public transportation.

thats honestly a huge joke. would never happen. 1st off, the isles territorial fee they paid the rangers as an expansion franchise allows the isles to move in the NYC market only within Nassau, Suffolk, Queens, & Brooklyn - so if this applied it would put the end to all of this speculation to begin with...

Additionally, while it looks close on a map the commute from LI for their fans would be an absolute nightmare and costly for fans - bad enough that alot of fans from LI will cut down significantly on # of games attended or stop going to games period. NJ has attendance problems of their own so how would the isles create new fans in the jersey area with their poor play in recent years?

Thus, there is absolutely no incentive for Wang to stop honoring his lease with Nassau Coliseum to do this.

If the Isles needed a temporary building like the Nets did with the Prudential Center, it would be at Barclays in Brooklyn which will apparently be able to host hockey games.

This is not even a pipe dream, its just BS.

Horrible idea. New Jersey fans dont even go watch their team there. Why on earth would Islanders fans, who are even worse, drive all the way to hell on earth, aka Newark, to see their team play?

I realize you can put a stadium in Pripyat and people will still go there as long as someone's playing football, but I wonder why this version is impossible.

So the Rangers would still be worried about the Islanders poaching from their fanbase?

The Isles could temporarily play at The Rock while their arena was being renovated...but long term, no way it would work
