I would hope Columbus would leap on that offer.

can't see why the Leafs would want to do this.....doesn't Kubina and Tucker have NTC's?

Not saying Zherdev is worth much more than this, but Columbus is taking awful lot of salary in long term contracts in this when their team isnt going anywhere right now.

Toronto wouldn't do this more than Columbus wouldn't do this.

Why would the Leafs want to do this?

The Jackets do this immediately, turning to of their lowest value assets in to good bulding blocks.

Tucker > Zherdev (contracts, effort/work-ethic, leadership etc. included)
Kubina > Foote
+ Columbus gets Stajan

To the OP, why do you like this for Toronto?

Tucker is getting older not to say he still can't play at a high level

but lets take a page out of the sens books and move on when a good players best days are behind them. he still has alot to offer but with having Blake on the team I think it makes Tucker expendable. he's making 3 +million to play 2nd, 3rd line minutes

Foote's best days are behind him as well but with McCabe and Kaberle and now even White we have more then enough offense then needed from the back end so that makes Kubina expendable

Bottomline

Leafs have very little cap its been that way for a few years its time to clear some space with out hurting the present product to much

As much as I love Zherdev, I wouldn't do it. Maybe remove Kubina and Foote and replace Stajan with White and it would be closer.

Tucker has a great contract for what he brings. Sure, you have Blake now, but you can never have too many gritty wingers who brings intangibles and can score 25-30 goals. His career high is 61 points which is perfect for a second line winger. Don't forget that Scott Hartnell makes 4.2 million and so does Mike Fisher, both of which have never scored 50 points. How many other wingers on your team are capable of 60 point seasons? I'd say Blake and MAYBE Antropov.

While I don't think he's among the league's elite, Pavel Kubina isn't really overpaid. I would definitely think twice before moving him as he brings a bit more depth at D. Beyond Kaberle, who's going to step up and provide some good D? Maybe Carlo or White, but they are still young and unproven. I think Kubina's the kind of guy you'd like to keep while building your team towards a contender and don't forget, the guy was the #1 (or 2) defenseman on a Stanley Cup winning team.

Now, if the purpose of the trade is a salary dump, why would you get rid of Stajan in the process? He's one of the young players you want to develop, especially if you're following "the Ottawa model"... Ottawa's strength comes obviously from top-end players, but features a real solid cast of younger, cheaper players (Eaves, Vermette, Kelly, Meszaros etc). Same went for the Ducks (probably moreso than the Sens - Getzlaf, Penner, Perry, Kunitz, etc) and they won the Cup. Zherdev might slide in to this plan, but until you see proof he can get motivated, why take the risk?

Finally, I think a package of Kubina, Stajan and Tucker can net more than Columbus' cast-offs.

Horrible proposal. I wouldn't do it from a Leafs perspective.

I second that. If Columbus didn't jump all over that offer then there's something wrong. That would be a hell of a deal for the Jackets.

If Columbus added Sestito and a decent pick I'd be more enticed.

The Leafs would have moved Tucker at the deadline last year instead of re-signing him if they felt he was no longer in their plans.

Though I'd love to see Zherdev in either Washington or Toronto, I'd say no.

Kubina isn't anywhere close to Foote IMO. Leafs would think hard about this one. Especially after last night's game. Kubina and the rest of the D looked lost and slow in that game... A guy like Foote would at least bring a little bit of defensive know-how and stability back there.
