We need Garrioch back now!

The importance of Garrioch to the Ottawa area was never more noticed than when the Sens went on a four game road trip and the whole area fell into a mighty deep freeze without Garrioch’s hot air. All we have to keep warm is to burn scrapes of paper, such as Garrioch’s report card on Sens players (e.g. Spezza – “Likes to talk a lot in class”, see Full of class - Bruce Garrioch (should have been full of gas) ) and the usual Warmth Du Jour of Garrioch here:

GMs may be singing to Celine's tune at meetings

Quote:
The Senators have interest in Edmonton tough-guy George Laraque. Right now, the asking price is too high because in return Oilers GM Kevin Lowe wants a player who can help immediately or a top prospect.
Lowe wants a player back, but everybody is wondering if Laraque is still a player himself.
Quote:
There's talk Carolina GM Jim Rutherford could be working on a big deal with the Bruins. There are whispers the Canes have held talks with Boston about C Brian Rolston and LW P.J. Axelsson. It's believed the Bruins covet RW Jeff O'Neill and RW Jaroslav Svoboda. The Stars have also shown an interest in Rolston.
Since Rolston is a UFA2B, he will not get O’Neill in return. The new Canes coach doesn’t seem to have made much difference with O’No – he scored the lone Canes goal Friday night (was still -1), but in the previous five games was pointless. I wonder if the Bruins would consider moving Samsonov before he is injuredov again.
Quote:
Calgary GM/coach Darryl Sutter has left the impression this will be his last season behind the bench. Brother Brent Sutter, who coaches the WHL's Red Deer Rebels, is considered a top candidate for the Calgary job.
Pure nepotism, and pure terror for any softies left on the Flames.
Quote:
The Bruins sent former Senators LW Rob Zamuner to their AHL affiliate in Providence. Six teams -- including Ottawa and Carolina -- have shown an interest, but nobody wants to pay all of his $2-million pricetag.
Not only that, but nobody wants to pay half his pricetag either.
Quote:
It's believed Ottawa, Toronto, Dallas, Montreal and Carolina have all shown interest in Isles C Michael Peca.
The Islanders coach has also shown interest in Peca, usually playing him 20 to 25 minutes a game (only 19:25 yesterday though). Surprising this column is Bonkless, even though Garrioch could have slipped in a Bonk for Peca deal here, especially with Spezza’s ice time greater than Bonk’s Friday night.
Quote:
The Sabres would like to move G Martin Biron, despite his recent strong play. One possibility remains the Avs, who could be looking for a backup to David Aebischer. Lacroix has also held talks with the Coyotes about Sean Burke, who is suddenly without a starting job, thanks to Boucher. It's believed the Avs are offering D Martin Skoula in exchange for a backup goalie.
Certainly Skoula is being offered up by the Avs, but scouts want him to start playing good D first. The Avs have to be happy with Aebischer’s 2.08 GAA and .926 save percentage (backup Sauve in 10 games 2.21 and .916 fine too), so don’t expect them to trade for a goaltender who would be not happy not starting, and any move will take place close to the deadline.
Quote:
The Hawks are expected to move C Alexei Zhamnov before the trade deadline. He will be an unrestricted free agent July 1.
Back from back surgery Zhamnov is not exactly the playoff warrior (last playoff series 0 points in 5 games) everybody wants, so the Hawks will not have a windfall return.
Quote:
Here's why Washington D Sergei Gonchar will be dealt before the summer: He has rights to arbitration and could stand to get a big award.
A D with 39 points in 43 games – yes, he’ll get the big award of playing in Toronto.
Quote:
Dallas coach Tom Hicks wants to make changes if the Stars don't shape up, so the watch is on coach Dave Tippett.
Wow! We’ve all seen GMs take over for a coach, but to have Dallas owner Tom Hicks become a coach is a Garrioch classic. Sadly I can no longer burn this column for mere warmth.

Have a nice indoors Sunday before the HF boards apocalypse tomorrow.

Edit: Sunday morning typos.

What would the Sabres want in return for Biron?

I dunno, I'm still big on Rolston/Axelsson, Bleedgreen. Maybe something else could be worked out in which everyone can be happy. Especially if Rolston would be willing to sign an extension....

Regier will probably hold out for a good prospect and mid-rounder. Doubt he'll be able to land much though. Moving Biron in itself is a valuable return as his salary would be off the books and the netminding situation would stabilize.

Osgood is a UFA at season's end, so Larry Pleau should be all over that if that's all it would take.

Err... apparently the Blues have an option on Osgood for next season. So, he's not a UFA, but he should still go after Biron.
