Horrible proposal. The Devils are giving way too much up. Now if you made it St. Louis and Lecavalier for Elias, Matvichuk, a first, and Martin Broduer's bellybutton lint, you have deal!

I'm a big fan of Elias, and I think this is terrible. Elias is signed long term, and the first rounder is probably going to be between 8-20 in a deep draft. Lecavalier is still that much better than Elias.

If Lecavalier is signed to an extension then this is a no brainer for NJ, the ONLY reason that this deal even becomes close is that fact that Vinny has one year left on his current deal. Otherwise Tampa is completely ripped off, unless of course you were joking. I am a devils fan and a big Elias fan as well.

lol i think that his post was dripping with sarcasm...

lecavalier could be on a day by day contract and this deal is NOWHERE NEAR close.

the original proposal isn't that good but how about Elias + Paul Martin + Travis Zajac + 2nd round draft pick for Lecavalier and Paul Ranger?

Just out of curiosity, how would everyone react to a deal that centered around Elias and Brad Richards? I think they are very similar players playing different positions. Biggest difference is that Richards makes 1.8 million more on his contract, so Tampa might have to add something to dump the salary.

why would we have to add something to dump salary that we dont need to dump? that makes ZERO sense... we would have to add something to trade the better player in the deal? RIIIIIIIIIIIIIGHT

Send a message via AIM to Butchered
Richards is LIGHTYEARS ahead of Elias IMO.

To consider that Tampa would actually have to give more is pretty off the wall.

This thread started out in a bottomless pit, and we're just going down from there. Soon I think we will crash into the bottom of the bottomless pit.

Richards
82 25 45 70 -19

Elias
75 21 48 69 1

And both are two-way players who have been clutch in the playoffs. Yup, there's a huge difference there. I realize that Richards is a few years younger, which is the be-all-end all on HFboards, but Elias has at least five good years left in him.

1) we have plenty of depth... contrary to popular belief we are as deep as we were when we won the cup if not MORE..... we have balance for the first time in years on all 4 lines.... we dont need to dump richards to get worse. thanks for thinking of us though

2) richards IS better then elias... you just compared what is arguably richards worst year in his career.... good job.... elias has a playoff record for most game winning goals? he has a conn smythe? really wow i didnt know that..... not to mention richards still hasnt reached his full potential while elias is OBVIOUSLY on the decline of his career. and by the way richards is 4 years younger...thats a LONG time in a hockey career... especially since richards is just NOW entering his prime.

1. I was just trying to come up with a trade that was of equal value for as they say... craps and giggles. And no you aren't as deep as when you won the cup. Your goaltending still sucks and your D was much deeper in 03-04 than it is now.

2. Yes, it is arguably the worst year of Richards' career. Also, it is arguably the worst year of Elias's career.

Talk about playoffs? Richards on an offensive minded team

Team League GP G A Pts +/- PIM Shots Sh%

2002-03 Tampa Bay NHL 11 0 5 5 -3

47 points in 45 games. 16 points in 11 games since the lockout.

Elias on a mostly defensive minded team.

93 points in 98 games since 2000. 26 points in 19 games since the lockout.

Yes, Richards has been MUCH better than Elias in the playoffs.

As for OBVIOUSLY on the decline, that's what they said about St. Louis before last year, you know?

I get your point though, Tampa Bay has no reason to trade Richards right now. You still don't need to make crap up to support that point. I suppose that's what I get for making up a stupid trade, though.

are you kidding? IM the one making things up?

1) yes we ARE as deep if not DEEPER then we were when we won the cup... our defense is very solid and we have a lot of depth at that position if needed. our 4 lines are full of scoring potential but they also serve as what they should... scoring, scoring, shutdown, and momentum. as for goalies...who knows...both denis and homer have the ability to be great. its just the lack of consistency..but so far this season so good.

2) sooo you just contradicted yourself... according to YOUR stats...

richards: 1.04 ppg
elias: .88 ppg

thats a BIG difference. just because elias has had more playoff games under his belt and has more points overall doesnt make him better. AS OF NOW..RICHARDS IS THE BETTER PLAYOFF PERFORMER.

and as for the st louis thing... no i dont know..i NEVER heard that about st louis... i heard he is trying to hard and is putting too much pressure on himself...i never once heard anything about an obvious decline in skills. whos making things up now?

and your trade isnt close to equal value....nj would not only get the better player NOW but they would get the younger player with more potential.... how is that even close to fair?
