Devils to Deal Matvichuk. Make Your Offer.

Age is not a factor in this case. 30 is the new 40 in the NNHL and he is only 34. Rafalski who is less then 1 year youngewr then Matvichuk signed a 5 year deal this offseason.

To fill you in:

-A lot of Devils fans collectively agree that Richard Matvichuk was our best defenseman in the post season for 2 consecutive seasons. This is after missing all of last season with back issues.

-Blocks a lot of shots

-Physical presence with good size

-Very smart and disciplined and good positionally

-Abundant Stanley Cup and Post Season experience on multiple teams.

-UFA this coming off season with a Cap hit of $1.368 million.

Downside:

- Bad puck control which results in the necessity him being dealt since this is a pre-requisite of Brent Sutter's coaching system.

-Not a pilon, but not the fastest skater.

-Does not always use his size to his advantage.

Richard Matvichuk is a solid reliable defenseman who could be an asset and provide veteran experience.

Don't be afraid to make an offer with MAtvichuk and other Devils players as well in a package.

What teams could use Richard Matvichuk as he is still an able bodied NHL capable defenseman?

there are about 4 teams that have 7 NHL d-men already.

What is Richard's contract like? that may have more to do with what teams would/could get him

I wouldn't mind him on pittsburgh...want to take Sydor? lol

He played 1 game last season because of his back, i don't think many teams will want to take a flyer on him. The plus side is that he makes less than 2m/yr and adds veteran leadership. Minus side is that he has persistant back and knee issues...but at his price, its not that bad for a team that really wants a veteran defenseman. I would want him on Pittsburgh mostly to play with Sydor since they have played together before, not sure if they were partnered or not. Too bad he isn't a right hand shot though.

We already have a Matvichuk thread going [which is 2 threads merged together]. We don't need another.
