Is Kipper overrated?

I personally think Kipper is a good goalie, but it was quite a while since he was in his vezina shape imo. Many put him top3 on their goalie lists, is he really that right now?

Quite a while? He won the Vezina one year ago.

As for the question, no.

Kipper is a notriously slow starter as has been nominated for the Vezina in all 3 of the years he has been a full time starter in the NHL, winning it once. He's been to the finals once and owns the record for lowest GAA in a single season. All this has been accomplished in the last few seasons. Not to mention back to back 40 win seasons and a high number of shutouts over that time.

Other than Brodeur and Luongo, who would you put over him or with him in the "top 3"?

Giguere??
Hasek?
Turco?
Miller???????
Lundqvist (you being Swedish I suspect you already think Lundy is better)???!???

He's a top 5 goalie but he's got one of the worst offensive teams in front of him.

Idk , i would put Kipper in front of Backstrom and DiPetrio.
Btw it's just the start of the season it's kinda early to say that he's not a top goalie anymore.

Haven't seen Kipper this season but he was fantastic in the PO's against Detroit IMO.

Not surprised to see who the threadstarter was though... (thanks for quoting him, have him on my ignorelist so couldn't see who it was at first).

The Flames tied for 5th overall in league scoring last year.

I think the ship has sailed on the Flames not being an offensively capable team.

I think Kipper is still top 3 in the league, but, there are a number of goalies in the league that are capable of overtaking him with a strong season.

Last year, he had a slow start, but, picked it up later. With how competitive the West will be this year, if he doesn't pick up his pace quickly, his team will be in a dog fight for a spot. It's not what a guy in his contract year needs.

You think it's about being burnt out, 3 games into the season?

Well, that's new.

Actually he won it in June, 2006, so it's been 1 year and 4 months from now.

no.

starts slow.

One of a handful of goalies who can consistently take over games.

Kiprusoff is a notoriously slow starter. I remember that during his Vezina season, he did not look like an NHL calibre goaltender in his first three starts. I think the scores were something like 0-6, 2-7 and 2-6.

Sadly, he isn't. He is a slow starter, but the whole flames organization is, it doesn't really make any sense. But when he is on his game, he is almost unbeatable. It really is unfair having to play Luongo and Kipper and now Backstrom (5-0 0.40 GAA 980something sv%, 3 SO against the Oilers) 24 times a year.

Calgary actually has a pretty good offense imo. Team seems solid all around.

They were 7 or 8 in the NHL in goals for last season, the top 6 is pretty respectable. Offence won't be the Flames problem.
