Dawes To Play Tomorrow (w/Jagr & Gomez) - Hossa Out (Groin)

As per Sam
http://rangers.lohudblogs.com
Quote:
Nigel Dawes is up from Hartford and on the ice for practice.
Update:
Quote:
I was, however, wrong about Marcel Hossa. Although he started practice today, he left the ice soon after, and is now almost certainly out tomorrow night. That means Nigel Dawes will be on the first line with Scott Gomez and Jaromir Jagr, while Brendan Shanahan and Martin Straka will indeed be centered by Adam Oates imitator Blair Betts.
Dawes - Gomez - Jagr
Prucha - Drury - Callahan
Straka - Betts - Shanahan
Hollweg - Dubinsky - Orr

Hossa = Out

Strange, because Hossa is also back on the ice.

Sam mentions the possibility of the 3rd line being Dawes - Straka - Shanny but that means Dubinsky or Betts would sit and we all know it won't be Betts.

Yep, sit Hossa, move Straka back up to 1st LW and put Duby or Scatchard as that 3rd line C.

On thursday 5 days will have passed after Dubi was KO'ed, I was a little suprised about Renney saying that he would play on Thursday, its obligatory to sit out 7 days at the minimum if you get a concussion.

I am not a expert on concussions, but it defenitly seemed like Dubi got one.

As someone said Dawes is probably precautionary if Dubi can't play...

Hossa has played well. Scatchard is a complete waste of a roster space, with no upside whatsoever.

Good to see Dawes getting some time in. I'm too tired to think about how it impacts the line combos, but I hope he gets a shot.

hossa - gomez - jagr
prucah - drury - callahan
dawes - straka - shanny
blair (can play wing but will take faceoffs) - dubinsky - hollweeg

when avery comes back go

avery - dubi - blair

thats 4 SOLID lines.

Enter someone talking semantics about shanny being on a 3rd line, or avery being a second line player.....

Interesting 4th line. Surprisingly I don't hate it I actually like it.

They won't move Betts to wing so Dubi can play center. Dubi would be the one shifted to wing.

According to the AHL Transactions list, Scatchard has signed a PTO with Hartford... which would suggest the Rangers are not giving him an NHL contract at this time:

Jason Strudwick just wasn't cutting it with the top line, eh? Who ever would have thought?

As for Dawes, I suspect he got the call last night as a precaution, in case Hossa couldn't skate today. I suspect they wanted him to at least get one full practice with the team under his belt before throwing him in on Thursday. However, if Hossa is able to skate and makes it through the full practice, and therefore play tomorrow, I suspect Dawes will go right back down to Hartford.

ola...

did Dubi have a confirmed concussion?

Still do not understand why Dawes was not here a couple days ago, at a minimum in Strudwick's top line left wing position.

Yeah it was pretty ballsy of Dubinsky to fight a guy like Richardson. I mean he is grown man, and Dubi is a a baby still. So yeah it was a risky move and he payed for it, but just for the fact he dropped his gloves and fought Richardson, I give him a ton of respect.

It wasn't ballsy, it was a stunning example of the immaturity that was said to be one of the only knocks against him getting the 3rd line center job this summer. Picking a fight with that guy, at that point in the game was pointless and stupid, and could have cost him his spot in the NHL if in fact he were concussed. It was incredibly short-sighted.

Update on Sam's blog says that Dawes will be on the first line with Jagr and Gomez tomorrow, and Hossa will be out. The other lines are as follows.

Straka-Betts-Shanny
Prucha-Drury-Callahan
Hollweg-Dubinsky-Orr

I hope that the Hossa benching is more because of his groin than his play, because he seemed to be playing pretty well back on JJ's line. But I must say I think pairing Dawes with Gomez is far and away the best course of action if Nigel's going to be in the lineup.

It was far from pointless. He was trying to send a message to his teammates and management that he's willing to stick up for himself. And with circumstances the way they were, late into a losing game, he's also sending the message that he won't quit.

Perhaps Richardson wasn't the best guy to fight, but sometimes you really don't have a choice.

The game that he grew up playing in junior, the minors, and now the NHL is going to expose him to a fight or two like that. I'm sure it's not the first time he's been rocked, nor would it be for most players that have been in a fight.

If you believe it was pointless, I'm afraid you've missed the point altogether.

good to see Dubinsky on the 4th line, I guess Jason Krog was not available this time. To be honest id rather have Sather claim some AHL bum than have Dubinsky on the 4th line. Dubinsky on the 4th is a waste. Its like when prucha was on the 4th line.

i think they hold you out for 48 hrs to see whether or not you had a concussion as a precaution, THEN if it is, it's 7 days on top of that.

and no, i don't think it was confirmed as one so he should be alright.

Those lines are fine by me. I'm hoping though that the Prucha-Drury-Callahan line is only the third line nominally, and that they actually get around 15 minutes.
