Dmitri Kalinin

With Kalinin being an UFA at seasons end, this is the dman Sather should target. Only 27 years old and would help our future and our present.

He's a solid player and a big guy. I wouldn't mind having him.

Really though, let's focus on this season first?

I mean he is a good player, but what does he really provide that would make him a target when season is over?

If he's an impending UFA with even modest talent, JOrts is all about signing him up.

JOrts ,since day one when he joined here has been up to sign any and every one. He means no harm though.

there'd be better players than Kalinin, available in the summer anyway so we may not go for him... but as one poster said, lets get half way into this year first!!

who knows, when this defence ( - malik!) wins a cup next June they might keep them together!!!!!!!

Kalinin is a good player but he's not a player I would spend a lot of money on because he's not going to add anything to our defense that we really don't have already in place. Namely he's not going to run the powerplay and he's not going to provide an intimidating physical presence.

As for Malik--there is a lot of anger directed at him right now. FWIW I think all of our impending UFA's on defense--Roszival, Malik, Mara are this season playing for next years contract. What they do on the ice this season should have bearing on that. Five games in is not enough after two full seasons to decide on Marek. I'm not a big fan of his but the state of the system and our current defense prospects, the availability of other free agents, cap room are also all going to be factors. It's not smart to cut ties when you don't need to. We don't need to now.

and how many times was he a Ranger with Jagr as his teammate?

Rucinsky was traded at the deadline during the purge of 04...do you really want to use that as an example?

He's got all the tools, but he seems to really struggle here in Buffalo often. He might be a guy that just goes to pot totally in NY.

Many Buffalo fans would probably cheer the move...

The only big name defender that I know of at this point, and would like to see in a Rangers uniform is Wade Redden.

Whihc is why i ask why shou\ld NYR target him. Like I said I know he is good, but he is something that is a must to go after, I think not. I love Tyutin and girardi. But i think a pairing of :

Tyutin-Kalinin
Redden-Staal ( next season )
Roszival-Girardi

dont look to bad if NYR picks up Kalinin and Redden
