I don't see Kovalev being the type of player traded to Dallas. In fact, I'd see more something like Streit and a pick for Boucher. Or Streit and Grabovski, I dont' know. But Dallas needs to get younger in every area, that's for sure.
On a side note, if the Stars are truly interested in Forsberg, like the rumour suggests it, they'll first have to shed some payroll.
They don't seem like a natural fit for a trade with the Canadiens, but a Stars scout attended the last four Habs games...

Interesting....good to know there's at least an effort to keep an eye on players.

Wonder who they were watching.

I'd go with:

Jussi Jokinen + Ivan Vishnevski

Vs

Alex Kovalev + Mikhail Grabovski

How is a rookie makin 2.2 M $ cap hit when he didn't accomplish almost anything?

the whole talk during training camp was Gillett saying we have 5 M $ left and he would gie tha money to Gainey if Gainey asked him for it. I remember that very clearly.

Wow, that's a horrible trade!

Alex Kovalev who's playing his best hockey in years, and Grabs who's our second line centre of the future...against Jokinen who's shown that he'll never develop to his potential and is affraid to play his game and Vishnevski who's a defensive prospect who would become our #6 defensive prospect.

If I was Dallas, I'd sign that deal in a second!!

Aside from the fact that the Stars couldn't afford this deal under the cap, I can't see us trading for another older player. That and the fact that Jokinen and Kovalev are essentially producing the same right now, with Jokinen making nearly $3 million less.

Stay tuned though. If the Kovy/Carbo thing explodes again may be we think about it, or if the Habs have an awful October maybe we think about it. For now though, we really can't afford to lose him, it doesn't look like this team is going to score a lot, and right now he's our best forward.
Kovalev isn't going anywhere. He's playing too well, and becoming the clutch player we always wanted him to be. He wants it, and he wants Montreal to get respect. He's too critical to what the teams needs now to ever be traded: finishing.
