Give Gaston a break.

He's had a really good streak going with the Flyers, but I think it's almost time for a break (preferably against the Lightning). I don't want to see our starter run into the ground again like last year.

sounds like Nitty is getting the Bolts game.

this road trip will be a nice defining statement to the early part of the season.

Do they really want to end the streak that soon?

I'd rather they face adversity sooner rather than later so the team can learn from it.

Agreed. Plus, I'd really like to see how well Nitty does with a team in front of his that is playing well. He definitely had his stuggles last year, but so did everyone else. It'd be nice to know we have TWO strong netminders!

nitty deserves his chance. biron is the definite starter, but nitty should be allowed to make a case for himself. if he does well, it will help a lot if we decide to trade nitty.

We can give him a break, but hopefully they are as few and far between as possible

Biron has played over 70 games in a season before - Look at his 01-02 season. I'm not saying play him 70 games this year, but we are winning and why make a change just to make a change.

It sucks to say, but the worst thing that could happen to this team right now is for Nitty to get a shutout against the Bolts. Hopefully he is very competent but just a step behind Biron.

Keeping the other team off the score sheet will never suck. Especially the bolts- See the 04 Eastern Conference Finals

As Storm and Jester mentioned we don't have two strong netminders. The team in front of Biron is having lapses for whole periods at a time, and I don't believe Nitty will bail us out nearly as well as Gaston. That said Nitty needs to get in games (especially back to back ones such as this week) if only to gauge his 'game readiness'
and to give the big guy a break here and there.

I agree, a nice 6-4 win would be good and non-controversial. A 2-0 win with 50 saves would have us all wondering where Nitty is the moment Biron has an off game, which is coming at some point. I know Biron is our definite number one but he is into a young season and was not exactly proven prior to this. What I don't want to see is shaken confidence due to another goalie controversy.

the only goalie controversy that would develop would be amongst those still convinced Nitty is a no. 1... which clearly isn't the coaching staff views him. a 2-0 shutout would, literally, have zero effect on the goaltending situation... and lets not make Biron out to be a mental-midget with regard to his confidence... he's an experienced goaltender in this league.

one should wish the absolute best performance from every player on the roster, including Nitty... lets not be scared of shadows here.

Guys, don't get me wrong. I don't want or expect Nitty to take Biron's spot. But, I'm not ready to give up totally on him. I thought he played well two season's ago, and I'm just curious how he does with an improved team in front of him.

I guess we'll only know if last year was a fluke or a reflection on his true abilities after we see him a few times.

Nitty is going to be fine this season, He could pitch a shutout and no one will say bo peep, Biron is the #1, he'll be the #2 all season long.

Agreed I doubt we'll shutout Tampa anyways but even still a nitty shutout isn't going to make Biron lose any confidence.

I know one poster that would blow his load if Nitty got a shutout and would start complaining about giving up a 2nd rounder for Biron...again.

If you talk to other Sabres fans, you'll understand that this isn't making a change for the sake of making a change. Biron has a history of burning out, and the coaching staff needs to keep that in mind if they expect to make an impact during the playoffs.

Doesn't matter because the Flyers will be playing back-to-back games during which they can be expected to surrender on average 33 shots against.

Martin Biron is the undisputed #1 goalie on this team -- Stevens has made this very, very clear from the start. The team knows Biron is the #1, and Nitty better damn well know it, too. Him getting a shutout in his first start of the season doesn't change that. Also... shutouts are never a bad thing, as they usually mean your team has won the game.
