Hypothetical Scenario

Assuming that when we traded for this particular player, he remained healthy. Also, considering his stable health, we're assuming the trigger for the Jagr trade would have never been pulled.

So, keeping in mind his level of play when he was here, would this lineup be any better or worse then what we have today?

Straka-Gomez-Bure
Avery-Drury-Shanny
Prucha/Hossa-Dubinsky-Callahan
Hollweg-Betts-Orr

OR whatever line variation you perfer. Remember the point is not who's on what line, the point is it's basically the same team only with Pavel Bure.

I bet Messier would still be playing in that scenerio too.

One way or the other Jagr would have become a Ranger, he wanted to be here & Sather always wanted him.

also chances are if Jagr didn't come here, neither would Straka.

I think the bigger what if from the Bure deal is what we could have had with the 9th overall pick in '02 instead. Semin, Stoll, Cam Ward, Higgins were still available. Instead we get 50 games from Bure.

Semin would have been nice, ward too, but we already had Lundy so thats a wash IMO.
Who drafted Stoll??

Bure's cap hit woulda limited our ability to sign some of the uys we signed.

Also he was damaged goods when we traded for him.

what if the Rangers do just enough to stay in the race in 03-04 and miss the playoffs without going through the rebuild?

chances are the team is looking at 10 years of no playoffs right now...

agreed, Jagr doesn't come here I don't see them building the team around anyone and it would've just been like all the other years.

Bure if remained healthy > Jagr now, IMHO.

But the post above is right, he'd ask for too much and with the cap that team would be totally different.

What if...

dog was spelled c-a-t?

Not great with 'what if' scenarios. Further to klingsor's point, it's hard for me to do a hypothetical on Bure being healthy because he wasn't when he was acquired, and he isn't now. Almost like, what if Jeter didn't hit into that DP againt the Indians. You can't get caught-up in what's already done. All you can do is analyze mistakes made in the past to better prepare for the future.
