For that price, it might be worth it, though it's not like Vally has done anything to warrant getting rid of him.

Vally makes 500K, right?

Aebischer would seem like a pretty good upgrade for the additional 100K.

I don't see how he is an improvement over Valiquette, or that an upgrade is required at this point.

He is definitly a upgrade i think we should take a shot at him. Valliquete has proved zero in the Nhl atleast Aebeschier has some credentials

Change of scenery might be good for him.

Its worth taking a look at least.

But he's got to be willing to be a backup. If he doesn't then no way.

might not be a bad move, he has the experiance @ the NHL level that Vally doesn't, If Lundy gets hurt @ least we have some one who can do more than just "fill in"

It went down hill fast for Aebischer.

13-12 3.17 GAA last year in Montreal...

Body-type is similar to Lundqvist, Swiss-born, maybe Henrik could rub off on him, not to mention Allaire's coaching

If Valiquette is in net, my thinking is we need to score 4+ to have a chance on that night.
That's not acceptable.

Make the move - small gamble that could pay off exponentially.

David Aebischer is 29 and has won 106 career games with a 2.52GAA and .912SV%. In 2003-04, he went 32-19-9 with a 2.09GAA and a .924SV%.

Stephen Valiquette is 30 and has four career wins. Since 1999 he's played in 6 NHL games.

I'm not arguing one way or the other for bringing in Aebischer, but come on, there's no way that he's not an upgrade over Valiquette.

Wow, i like vally and want to give him a shot. but Aebischer, is a huge upgrade and has proven way more in the NHL, and would be solid if Henk wasnt able to play due to injury or whatever. he can give NYR 20 solid games as a backup. I say go for it.

i would feel more comfortable with him in net, then Vally for the long run.

Bingo! +1

He even has playoff experience... Definitely worth the extra 100k over Vally

How is the Waiver wire ordered this early in the year. Is it still by standings?

I just thought about this. he is cheap and when on his game is very solid. i think alot of teams with goaltending problems will looking to snatch him up.

Maybe LA, Boston, Atlanta, Pitts. i dont know. I think he will be grabbed ,when i dont know. but, i wouldnt be shocked if it happened quickly.

We'd be claiming him off waivers, not signing him. If he were a UFA, I'm sure there are lots of teams that could guarantee him a lot more ice time than we could. Some teams he'd by vying for a starting position.

Exactly. With a 600k salary he'll be in high demand. Not sure why Phoenix would just waive him.

I like TTJ's thoughts on the topic best.

Aebischer played some decent hockey in Colorado, but those are days gone by. You'd be hard pressed to convince me that the post-lockout Aebischer is anything but equal to goaltenders who've gotten nothing but spotty fill-in work in the twilight of their careers. It's lateral move and change for the sake of change, which is the LAST thing the Rangers need right now.

Waivers go by league standings, lowest team has first dibs, and as of today, only Nashville and Atlanta are lower than us. Depending on how serious Lehtonen's injury is, Atlanta might have interest in Aebischer, but if not, he's ours easily.

When I first saw this thread I was about to say "No way".

But I didn't realize how small his contract is. This one SHOULD be a no-brainer. Pick him up.

Coming from a Habs fan...take him. Very underrated goalie, was named our player in the month for October, was even no.1 for a while, yes he's inconsistent, but he can go on extremely hot streaks and steal some games, plus he's not a choker. Besides...he only played 1 game for Pheonix and he had a .909sv%, better then either Auld or Tellvquist.

Whats the process of waivers? Isnt there a list of teams that they have to go through before he clears?

Does anyone know where the Rangers are on that list?

RangerBoy - are you out there...?
