This one will be a tougher test than people are giving credit for. Vokoun is playing VERY well for a team with a bad record.

Flyers 3, Panthers 2.

Gagne
Carter
Hartnell

Horton (2)

Flyers get outshot again.

Which is great news as far as I'm concerned. I think there's a number of combinations we could try and that could potentially have success all season. Rosters need shaking up from time to time, the belief around here that we have to keep lines together because we're winning is a bit ridiculous. Like you said, this team isn't playing that well.

You keep lines together to let chemistry form. Shaking things up creates confusion. The players have to keep adjusting to learn how best to take advantage of their new linemates. More than anything else, this is what PO'd me the most about Hitchcock, he believed more in the system than the players, that ideally the players were just interchangable parts.

And BTW, I agree the team has not been playing as well as the record suggests, particularly vs the Canes, though exception is made for Mike Richards who has been stellar since game 1.

I'm all for letting chemistry form, but shake-ups are necessary. It's nice to know Stevens is willing to break up the top line because in my opinion, they don't have chemistry and probably never will.

I've been on and off that bandwagon. I still think his ability as a shut down center is overrated, though I dont think anyone underrates his offensive game anymore.

What makes you think Potulny is playing over Cote?

The Courier-Post said Potunly was sent back and Eager was practicing with Dowd and Cote.

Quote:
Eager took part in a full practice after missing three games with concussion symptoms. He practiced on a line with C Jim Dowd and RW Riley Cote. RW Ryan Potulny was sent back to the Phantoms to make room for Eager.

RW Scottie Upshall (fractured left wrist) skated hard on Monday and is aiming for a Nov. 1 return in Montreal. Stevens said he would wait until then to figure out where he'll use Upshall, who started out on a line with C Jeff Carter and LW Scott Hartnell.

That line has played well with Sami Kapanen on the right side. When Upshall returns, look for Cote to come out of the lineup.

Marty Biron will get the start Wednesday against the Panthers, with Antero Niittymaki getting the call Thursday in Tampa. That will allow Biron two days rest before he faces the Bruins in Boston Saturday.
Also

Quote:
Stevens has reunited the top line of Daniel Briere, Simon Gagne and Mike Knuble after breaking them up late in the second period of Saturday night's 3-2 overtime win against the Carolina Hurricanes.

Stevens pulled Knuble (two goals, three assists, minus-1) off that line and replaced him with Joffrey Lupul (two goals, five assists). In practices Monday and Tuesday, Lupul was back on a line with Mike Richards and Umberger.

"Decisions are made during the course of a game," Knuble said. "At the time, he thought he needed me somewhere else. We got the result and that's all that matters."

Upshall on the 4th line instead of Cote? What a waste? I doubt Kapanen can keep up his goal scoring. Hopefully this is just until Upshall gets his game back

What are you talking about? I doubt he means for a 1 for 1 spot substitution.

I'm going to pull an Al Morganti and predict that the Flyers win 38-10.

You know, you're right.

But I swear to god the other night, it was either on TSN, Sportscenter or The Score, someone said, "and we still await our 1st hat trick of the season".

I was drinking at the time, but I'm pretty sure I heard that.

Anyways, I still call for the Gagne Hat Trick.

think he'll be wearing his mushroom helmet during the game?

Seriously though, I've never listened to him. How long has he been doing the Panthers games? What's wrong with him? A homer, boring, or both?
