Ottawa among Final 5 for World Jrs

Great News - I hope everyone put in their seat deposits.

http://www.tsn.ca/world_jrs/news_story.asp?id=67766

The other finalists are Vancouver, London-Kitchener, Saskatoon and Quebec City.

I think we now have an excellent chance of hosting the juniors in Ottawa. What kind of chance do you guys think we have?

Jeff Hunt will pursue this like nobody's business. I'd be surprised if Ottawa didn't get the tourney.

Jeff Hunt is a good guy but he has been scr*wed over by internal hockey politics before.

I figure if the WJ tourney is held in the US next year, it will go to Europe in 2006. Better luck trying for 2007 IMHO.

.

Canada is already guaranteed the 2006 games, hence the 5 cities that are finalists are in Canada.

North America gets it 2 years in a row? Wow. Euros are asleep at the switch? Don't expect to see it again for a half dozen years I guess. Good luck to Hunt.

Why not hold it in Canada EVERY year?

Attendance is highest in any Canadian city as is the exposure, and the time zones are better for tv.

Canada gave up the rights to host the Worlds in a couple of years to get the juniors quicker.

According to many, Vancouver is the odds on favourite to get it.

Thanks. I'm not really up on my international hockey politics.
