Straka Update - Could resume skating Monday

Martin Straka will undergo a second x-ray to determine whether surgery on his broken finger is necessary. The veteran will be out for four weeks at a minimum, but it could be significantly longer should surgery be required. - New York Daily News

found this on tsn's ice chips.

Anybody else have more info? As this is not looking good.

There was some encouraging news on Martin Straka, who broke a finger on his right hand blocking a Zdeno Chara slapper in Boston on Oct. 20.

Straka will have more X-rays Saturday and could skate with a protective shield on Monday, both he and Renney said.
From Zipay the other day (heh, rhyme).

Straka is a player that will play hurt--how effective he will be offensively is the question here--and I wonder whether Renney has learned anything from last year--when he stuck Martin and his injured shoulder back on the point on the pwp where he couldn't shoot and everybody knew it. Martin is a real hockey warrior and we're lucky to have him.

If we come away with 3 or more points by Monday, I would find it hard to believe that Renney would rush Straka back.

It would be nice to get a healthy team back again. Especially against Philly. Who might be missing Gagne I believe.

I would say Prucha, Hollweg or Orr would be the odd man out as Hossa has been playing well. Not really scoring but solid D and penalty killing.

Why would Hossa sit?

Renney's choices for lines are like the NY Lotto. "Hey you never know"

I think theyd give him a few practices at least.

Hey, Nigel Dawes... you hear those footsteps?

Better have another good game tonight -

I'm not a fan of many of Renney's decisions, but I don't think even he can come up with a single rational justification for that move. Especially given his apparent appreciation of Hossa's ability and less than overwhelming confidence in Prucha's ability.

Yea. Gain a pker, scratch a pker? makes no sense.
It would be Strudwick who sits.

Struds sits when Avery comes back, probably Saturday...

If Straka comes back Monday (or sometime that week), it is the first of a few decisions for Renney.

Don'tthink you can bench Hossa right now (and now way for Nigel Dawes), but does Hossa go to the 4th line (You can't put Straka there)..?,Or Does Straka just replaces Prucha? Or takes the 3rd line spot and Prucha goes to the 4th line and one of Holly (who really has played decently) or Orr is sat....Remembering that the opponents might be the FLyers or Islanders..

Should be interesting and alot might depend on how these guys play the next two games...Nothing wrong with riding a hot hand....

I remember Larmer playing with a broken finger (thumb?), so I wouldn't be surprised if Straka comes back early.

That article is inaccurate. They must have misunderstood what the team conveyed. Straka might be cleared to skate Monday, for conditioning purposes only, and with a protective shield on his finger. Sam and Zip have both very recently stated that Straka is at least 3 weeks away.

Marty's a warrior. He'll be back soon enough, he is a class act and he's got the team first mentality.

Like I said didn't know how accurate it was. But why would he have to be cleared to skate. He hurt his finger, not his legs.

That doesn't make sense either. Cleared to skate? He hurt his finger, why wouldn't he have been able to skate?
