Summer 2008 Forward UFAs

Here is a list of some of the more sought after, imho, forward UFAs at the end of next season. I was just wondering what the rest of you feel they may get in the open market, if they make it that far. As I am a Canucks fan I have no interest in defensive UFAs, therefore I excluded them, sorry. I have also excluded other forwards who I think are not high on the block, include them if you wish.

Player Pos 07/08 08/09? 06/07 Pts
C. Kunitz LW 1.150 25G 35A
K. Huselius LW 1.400 34G 43A
A. Brunette LW 1.600 27G 56A

P. Demitra RW 4.500 25G 39A
B. Rolston RW 2.432 31G 33A
M. Hossa RW 7.000 43G 57A

D. Langkow C 2.442 33G 44A
D. Legwand C 2.100 27G 36A
P. Marleau C 4.500 32G 46A
J. Hecht C 2.350 19G 37A
M. Straka C 3.300 29G 41A

edit: I cant get this stupid formating to ever work in this site, any tips to line up columns?

C. Kunitz Should have a goodseason next year, looking at his stats right now I'd say 4.5M.
K. Huselius Very productive, but a bit of a headcase (or is it keenan), some GMs don't like Euros, but he'll get a lot, 5.5m
A. Brunette Not even Sakic can make someone have a huge career year at age 33, don't know how he did it, (fluke)likely 20-30 point drop, 2-3M, or if he keeps it up 4-5M

P. Demitra Gaborik's soulmate, Minny will try to keep him desperately, 6M, I think he'll take a little paycut
Rolston Think he's overrated, but someone will pay a lot for him, 5M.
M. Hossa 100 point player who can play 2 way, 8M-9M
D. Heatley Better scorer than Hossa, people like perenial 50 goal scorers, 8.5M-9.5M

D. Langkow Lesser version of Burnette, big career year, he has better chance of maintaining it though, I think he takes paycut, 3.5M
D. Legwand Nashville can't lose any more good players, if they have money they'll overpay, big if though, if he stays in Nashville they'll be desperate and pay 5M, else where 4-4.5M
P. Marleau Will be relatively young, very productive, 7-8M
J. Hecht 19G 37A His salary is apprioate right now but someone will overpay, 3.5M
M. Straka 3M, I think he takes paycut

what? I mean, I don't understand why a team would pay for a guy who gets the points in season but nothing when playoffs come... I don't think he's gonna win that much, that's for sure

Marleau at 7-8 millions? I don't think he gets enough points for this... probably between 5,5 and 6,5 IMO

Did you miss the part where 60 point scorers Chris Drury and Scott Gomez got over $7M per season? What will an 80 point, Point-per-Game player, get on the open market?

Scott Gomez got $7 million, and Marleau is also a better goal scorer. He'll easily get $7 million in UFA, and probably more.

Pretty sure the first part of his post is about Marian Hossa.

Brunette won't have a 20-30 point drop if he plays with Sakic again this season.

Here's the list (updated November 13, 2007) of players slated to be free agents following the 2007-08 season (both RFA and UFA) ...

I think you are pricing players a little too high. Gomez and Drury didn't get 7 million because they are worth it statistically, but because the Rangers wanted to sign guys now, and they happened to be the 2nd and 3rd best forwards on the market this year.

UFA prices next year will depend almost exclusively on the new salary cap.

Teams overpaid for UFAs this year because:
1. Most good players were already signed
2. The cap went up by more than 6 million

If the cap stabilizes, you'll probably see 2008 UFA prices correct themselves by dropping a little bit.

I dont think Straka will be availible after this year, he has said he wants to finish his career in the Czech Republic. In fact, I was quite surprised when he signed an extension last season

Brunette continues to get underrated. His last 2 season were no fluke. He's got amazing hands and vision. He's a big body and he's money in around the net. Theres not a better passer on the Avs from behind the net than Bruno.

With the Rangers and Flyers probably out of the running you may be right. However, expect 6.5 to 7 million. And I expect Lamoriello to finally go after a major UFA and he seems to really like Marleau.

If the Canucks don't re-sign Naslund I would like to replace him with Huselius. I think he could be available because the Falmes need to re-sign Phaneuf and Kiprusoff. If Morrison is not re-signed I would look at David Legwand as a good replacement. If Huselius and Legwand do what they did last year I expect they will get 5.5 and 4 million respectively.
