Josef Balej's unbelievable goal

I've been watching hockey a long time and I've never seen anyone deke a defenceman the way Balef did in the Dogs' 6-0 victory.

He played the puck from his forehand towards his backhand off the outside of his right skate blade and back to his forehand--all while skating flat out. Both the d-man and the goalie were absolutely stupified.

Earlier in the game he toyed with the opposition by putting the puck under his skate blade and moving it around while pressed against the glass by a defender.

The guy has incredible skills to go with world-class speed. I want to see him up with the big club now. And what's more. Perezhogin may prove to be an even bigger talent. The guy has a real touch...wait a year or so and I think you'll see two of the best young right-wingers around to go with Ryder, Ward and Dagenais.

Where can I get some footage of that goal? Anyone have it on file, or have a URL for it?

I have the game on VHS but don't have the technology to put it on-line.

Hey, would you be willing to copy it and sell it online?

Should be a great tape to watch.

It was nice, and it happened right in front of me, but there have been some moves that were better.

One of my favorites was a quick stop puck behind him, and a wrist shot, had everyone fooled. Perezhogin did it sooo quickly.

incredible goal , it was a great afternoon ... 8-0 Habs and 6-0 Dogs ... and both game were on tv .

Balej confidence level must be at an all-time high right now . He just got named on the starting line for the AHL all star game and he's also climbing up for the AHL scoring title .

How are we going to get Balej into the Habs lineup? Will BG bring him up this year?

I would be very surprised if Balej doesn't play at least a couple of games for the Habs this season... if I got it right, he was to be called up sometime ago (last week?), but a snowstorm prevented him from coming.

Dagenais will sit at some point to give Balej a shot.

I don't know but i'm pretty sure that i'm not the only one who thinks that he would probably do better than Bulis on the first line .

I think that we would probably see him if the Habs are on a bad losing streak or if there are many injuries but other than that the line up will most likely stay the same for this year.

I'd like Balej to be called up and given a try with Saku.

I like Bulis. He's one of our most consistent players but I think that his offensive game has hit a ceiling. He's best suited for checking line duties IMO. If they call up Balej I don't think they can really sit Dagenais. He's been scoring and has done his job. It would be unfair to demote him now. So I'd use this line up.

Ryder-Koivu-Balej
Zednik-Ribeiro-Dagenais
Bulis-Juneau-Sundstrom
Langon-Kilger-Ward

Ryder played LW with Perreault and Audette. He's pretty versatile. I wouldn't CJ mind trying him on the left.

Bring Zednik back on the 1st and send Ryder on the 2nd with Ribs and Dagenais.

NOOO ! Ryder has great chemistry with Koivu. And Koivu is a big reason why Ryder is so good now. If you're gonna bring up Zednik on the 1st line it should not be at the expense of Ryder IMO.

Hmmm... way to overreact. I saw the game and it was a cute and pretty unique goal but "unbelievable"? Nope.

I've seen better. You're blowing this out of proportion.

You have a point but Ribs and Ryder showed some chemistry together against the pens and maybe Balej would do as good as Ryder with Koivu , it is not easy to say.

Still , a little experiment for 1-2 games wouldn't hurt imo

You know, it might be a cliche, but I really like the expression "If it ain't broke, don't fix it". Ryder is doing very well playing RW with Koivu, so I'm not sure I'd want to move him...

But what about Balej. We let him rot in the minors ?

He is right the goal was "unbelievable"? I saw the game too and again the goal was UNBELIEVABLE!

He was recalled before that game but a snow strom was striking near and he had to play the game . Now i wonder why they don't recall him , maybe Dagenais saved his spot for a couple more games .

I heard that too but never seen any medias report it so I'm unsure if it's true or not. I guess he would have been called back the next day if that was indeed true. They wouldn't call him back one day and cancel the offer the next one. It doesn't make sense. Imagine Balej ... the kid would be disapointed big time.

Sorry, but that was unbelievable. It was done at top speed and had everyone moving the wrong way. Don't know why you would want to throw cold water on it.

As far as better goals go... well, you didn't name anything specific. Can you?

A year and a half isn't exactly rotting in the minors (ask Mike Ryder) and at the end of this season, that is approximately what Balej will have played.

He'll be with the Habs soon... maybe for a look see at during this season and next year for sure (assuming no lockout).
