Pierre Hedin

Looked pretty good, played very decently. Strong on his skates, decently quick, good all around. Anyone have any complaints as to his play from tonight? I thought he was great...Daniil Markov all over again? (hopefully without the alcoholism...)

What does everyone think?

I kept my eye on him all game. there was only one mistake I saw from him in the whole game which he worked hard to correct. I was also impressed with Jackman who played like it was the beginning of the season again.

Or the end of his season in Toronto.

if hockey politics don't keep him ON THE ROCK

I agree.

I'd say he's extremely valuable to St. John's to keep him here.

I was out and missed most of the game but loiked what I saw from Hedin. I think it's worth keeping him here for a while.

I'd love to keep him... but he still needs to develop to the n.american game imho. He looked solid minus the one give away. But overall... very good first impression (no markov here). I think we'll be seeing him make the team next year out of training camp.

I think he's taken big strides from what we saw in preseason. If he played like he did tonight, he should be a regular in no time.

Quinn had some VERY positive words to say about Hedin, let's see if I can remember and paraphrase, "I think Hedin may be one of those guys who should stay in the NHL because of his style of play...The lower leagues (AHL) have a kind of choppy play, but he is the kind of player that needs a more free flowing play...I was very impressed by him...He made good passes and chipped the puck out when a play was not there." This is pretty high praise coming from the old goat and a message to JF that Hedin needs to stay in the NHL.

Berg and McCabe both had very positive things to say about his play as well.

Vaive said he was impressed as well citing his left hand shot on the right side and how he always made himself available for the pass from Berg to get the puck out.

I was impressed too.

One thing we all agreed upon was that the Leafs defense coming into the season was weak and another couple guys were needed.

Then they signed Klee (good)
Then Jackman emerged with potential (good)
Then it seemed that Berg was playing like never before (good)
Then Klee was playing offense like never before (good)
Then Jackman slid (bad)
Then Pilar came back and played well (good)
Then it became evident that the old McCabe was back (good)
Then Kaberle's offensive output seemed to have declined (bad)
Now Hedin seems to be a possibility (good)

That's more good than bads, for sure.

How far away is the blue line from being a top 5 contender to win the Cup?

Markov was physical, hitting guys all over the place.

Hedin is smooth...more like Pilar.

Hedin has only played One game with the Leafs. I think we should wait, atleast, until he gets comfortable in his play, to really see what he is made of. Not sure if he would get the chance to do so, this year, though.

I meant like Markov moreso as a guy who emerged out of nowhere to become a legitimate talented prospect.

SWEDISH IDOL: Pierre Hedin, the native of Sweden who made his NHL debut on defence for the Leafs, had a high-scoring forward as his idol: former Flame Hakan Loob.

"When you were a kid, you always want to score so I think that's why he was my big star," Hedin said.
