2010 Olympics Roster Projections

Line 1 : Sundin , Alfredsson , Holmstrom
Line 2 : Henrik Sedin , Daniel Sedin , Jorgen Johnsson ,
Line 3 : PJ Axelsson , Michael Nylander , Henrik Zetterberg
Line 4 : Kristian Huselius , Samuel Pahlsson , Markus Naslund

Not including Peter Forsberg if hes still playing I would definitely put him in the line up. Im Canadian and I think Canada and Sweden have the 2 best teams in the world.

You don't think Sundin will be retired by then?

I'll take at shot at a line-up.

(1) Holmström - Zetterberg - Alfredsson
(2a) Sedin - Sedin - Hörnqvist
(2b) Franzén - Bäckström - Steen
(4) Lundqvist - Påhlsson - Sjöström

Lidström - Kronwall
Öhlund - Bäckman
Tallinder - Strålman
(Grossman)

Huselius should probably be in there as well, but I couldn't find a good spot going by present chemistry and good ingredients for lines.

i'd love to see sedin - sedin - weinhandl!

and since it's two and a half years from now, i would consider alex edler on defense. could be a great guy then.
same with patric hörnqvist.

I think you have to put Huselius in there, he's good for 30-40 goals this season in the NHL..maybe even over 40.

Hmmm... I guess I'm picking this team with the idea that BAG likes his SEL diesels, the ones he can see and keep in touch with every day, on his teams. However, being that the OG hokcey tournament will be played in Canada, on NHL sized rinks, I hope he favors the NHL guys, as they will be able to step right in and produce without concern about the difference in speed and bounces.

Sundin said he WILL NOT PLAY IN 2010. Naslund is probably not an on-going concern for tre kronor given his attitude since the -04 World Cup, and the fact that he is having a tougher and tougher time to create room for his once lethal wrister.
I doubt Lidas will be there either. I rasie a similar concern for Alfie, but not Forsberg (surprise, surprise).

Didn't know if Huselius, Tallinder, and Lilja are welcome back to play for Tre Kronor, but I know last year that Huselius opted out as he didn't want the "scandal" to be brought up again and force him to answer stupid questions. I hope and live with the idea that in 2010, it's no longer an issue, but then again...

I also leave one of my favorite players, Holmstrom, out as I know the BAG doesn't think too highly of him and only brought him along in 2006 becsuse of other no-shows.

OK....

Forsberg - Zetterberg - Huselius
(Not a "balanced" line, but politics will come into play as always).

Sedin - Sedin - Samuelsson
(These guys ripped it up in the WCHs in 2006; you've go tot put them back together.)

Steen - Tony Martensson - Backstrom
(Backis is learning and doing very well playing the wing in the Caps. NPs in 2010.)

Sjostrom - Pahlsson - Lundqvist
(OK... two centers, but both Jolle and Sammy know how to work together)

Ohlund - Backman
Kronwall - Tallinder
Stralman - Lilja
Edler - Jonsson (Kenny)

Lundqvist
Holmqvist
Enroth (BAG likes his SEL guys... I'd rather see Hedberg or Tellqvist there, especially on an NHL rink, but I don't think they'll get the nod from BAG.)

Other guys who I think may be interesting to watch by 2010 is J. Oduya, Kronwall (toronto), Loui Eriksson, Bergfors, Oscar Hedman, Carl Soderberg, Rahimi, and Alexander Sundstrom.

Öhlund - Strålman

Lundqvist
Holmqvist

Svarta hästar:

Mikael Backlund
Niklas Bergfors

I just repost the lines from the last talk we had about what the lines would look like from last season. Could perhaps reunite Weinhandl with the Twins but I am sure Hörnqvist will be a very good goalscorer in a few years.

Forwards
Sedin - Sedin - Hörnqvist
= The Sedins and a RW with a right hand shot who plays through traffic. Dont know if Hörnqvist is able to play first line but if he progress, 3 years (perhaps 1 or 2 of those in the NHL) would do the trick. And anyone can play with the twins.

Zetterberg - Bäckström - Steen = So much skill and overall awerness it is almost scary. No real snipers but all capable of scoring in all situations.

Axelsson - Påhlsson - Alfredsson
= A line to good to turn down, even do some of them are older vets by then. But they have played a lot of games togheter in the past and it always work.

Eriksson - Mårtensson - Sjöström = One good center, who by then is 29 and in his prime, and on his wings 2 speedy youngsters who will give their all every shift. Great 4th line.

Lundqvist as the 13th forward in the squad. Could steal the spot from Sjöström.

D-man
Lidström - Kronvall = Lidas
is not to old in 3 years time. We build the D around him and Nicklas and we are in good hands.

Öhlund - Strålman = Like the pair above they offer a good combo of hitting power and good playmaking.

Oduya - Tallinder = Another pair who can hit, play and score.

Enström See no reason why he could not make the squad if he plays well for Atlanta. Lots of potential.

Goalies
Lundqvist
= Well it would be kind of cool having two pair of twins in the squad...

Holmqvist
= There is no better back up around.

Heino-Lindberg = By then he have played 3 more seasons, atleast 2 as an SEL starter and perhaps 1 in the AHL or as a NHL back up. Lots of potential.

I think we should include Sundin even if he said no a while ago. Maybe just to persuade him...The main reason might be not to want to play in the Worlds....but when the team, defending champions and maybe one of our best generations of swedish athletes in any sport, start to evolve, when he sees Alfredsson and Lidström still being good and the tournament only will last for two weeks in february...HE WILL JOIN!! Of course Forsberg will be his usual self...remember Sakic is two years older TODAY than Forsberg will be in 2010.

Two years and a few months away I believe these players are too old:

Axelsson, The Jönsson brothers, Nylander, Näslund and Holmström

These will never be good enough IMO: Huselius, Sjöström and Oduya

And if Victor Hedman joins the national team NEXT season he might be good enough the season after that.

Jönsson will be on the swedish team until he retires.

A player like Mårtensson is a good injury replacement, but he won't be any better than he is now in 2010.

You can dress two goalies and 20 skates for a game. Pretty sure you can have a roster of 26 players.

Why the tough love for Huselius back in Sweden?

The guy is just lethal. He works hard, skates fast, knows how to put the puck in the net, and has absolutely no respect for his body when it comes to taking a hit? What else can one wish for.

IMO, he is one of the top three forwards we have in the NHL for the moment.

Bäckström-Zetterberg-Hörnqvist/X
Sedin-Sedin-Steen
Huselius-Påhlsson-Alfredsson
J.Lundqvist-Mårtensson-PJ Axelsson
Lidström-Kronwall
Tallinder-Stråhlman
Enström-Hedman
Bäckman-Edler
Lundqvist

I think we could look something like this. There will defenitly be some positive upsets in the comming 2 seasons too. I put Hörqvist in there. But it could also be a Freddy Petterson/Zachrisson/Harju/Bergfors among many others. Time will tell.

I don't know where this hard working heart and soul type of player comes from. The Huselius I remember is kinda one dimensional, kinda lazy and most definitely a puck hog. I guess some of that is bias though, since I've never really liked the guy. But I guess we could fit him in on the team in 2010, if both Sundin and Alfie retires before then. If not, let the guy stay in Calgary (or wherever Keenan has traded him to by then).

I am assuming that you are sarcastic when writing, "The Huselius I remember...", as I'm sure you've seen him play quite recently. However, I would agree with you that he wasn't all that when Keenan shipped his @ss out of Florida, but he certainly grew as a player, or maybe as a person, during his first year with the Flames. Anyway, I guess we'll have to agree to disagree. I certainly consider him being one of our best producers in the NHL, and if he keeps developing like this, he will be a superstar in a few years. JMHO.

Still?
People make mistakes... as far as violating team rules. However, I don't hear a lot of people protest Chippen's, Mellberg's, or Slatan's participation in the Soccer National Team.

****?
I thought the police didn't press charges. Apparently the 22-year-old woman followed three NHL professional millionars back to their hotel room and then reported that it was ****? Maybe, maybe not. They shouldn't have done what they did, but the girl's choices and actions are a bit strange considering her claims. Not only did police drop the case, but the prosecutor, after reviewing the case, agreed with the police that this was indeed not a case. What else does one need to have happen after somebody accuses you of ****? Tough world we live in... Somebody screams ****, and you are not only convicted but labelled as a rapist for the rest of your life.
