Who will make it into the Western Playoffs?

Currently the standings are:
1. Vancouver 45 gp 59 pts
2. Detroit 45 gp 58 pts
3. Colorado 43 gp 57 pts
4. St. Louis 42 gp 52 pts
5. San Jose 44 gp 51 pts
6. Calgary 42 gp 50 pts
7. Nashville 44 gp 48 pts
8. Dallas 45 gp 46 pts
9. Phoenix 43 gp 46 pts
10. Los Angeles 43 gp 45 pts
11. Edmonton 44 gp 42 pts
12. Minnesota 44 gp 42 pts
13. Anaheim 44 gp 38 pts
14. Chicago 45 gp 34 pts
15. Columbus 43 gp 31 pts

Who will make the playoffs? I think that the top 4 will safely make it. I think Chicago and Columbus are out already and Anaheim is in serious danger. Can Calgary continue their hot streak? Is Nashville for real? Is there any Kings left to ice a lineup?

Calgary will make it playing .500 hockey for the rest of the season. For them to miss they have to have a pretty bad streak. Edmonton has an easy stretch of games this month. Some of them against teams ahead of them, that they generally play well against. San Jose will make it with Nabokov playing sharp.
Dallas makes it so Edmonton makes it. The legend of the two teams.

I picked the same as you except that I opted for Nashville instead of Dallas.

I picked Edmonton, Dallas, Los Angeles, and San Jose. Will Dallas shape up so we meet them in the 1st round again?

Flames, Oilers, Dallas and Minny.

Never thought I'd say this but it's nice to see Cgy make the playoffs. If Edmonton can get on a role, we may have all 6 canadians teams in the playoffs.

I've voted San Jose, Calgary, Oilers, and regrettable the Dallas Inflated Payroll Stars. Would love to drop Dallas but they still have enough horses to make the show.

If not for a horrid litany of injuries LA Kings would have made my list but it is tough to make the playoffs with your line-up playing in wheel chairs. Coyotes have put together a nice string but not sure they can sustain it. Nashville continues to grind it out but I think they will slip in the second half.

I am counting on a resurgent Oilers club who have bottomed out and should be able to claw its way back into contention. Despite the wheels falling off, it is amazing this club has stayed within six points or so of the eighth spot.

I sure did, wow, just wow, sucks they gave up the tie-er with a second left, but wow, that game was just insane at the end. Flames blew what should have been a win. But 3 goals in the last minute? Insane.

well there is a good way to figure this out - over the past 4 seasons the average points needed for 8th place was 91.... assuming the needed points for 8th place will be 91 again (though it might be a couple lower this year), all you have to do is figure out what winning percentage each team needs to have to make this grade

Vancouver - .432
Detroit - .440
Colorado - .436
St. Louis - .488
San Jose - .526
Calgary - .513
Nashville - .566
Dallas - .608
Phoenix - .577
Los Angeles - .590
Edmonton - .645
Minnesota - .645
Anaheim - .697
Chicago - .770
Columbus - .769

take whatever insights you wish from these results, but its gonna be a hard road for some teams that are on the bubble (dallas, edmonton, minnesota)

LA has no chance, and if they did they would just get another injury. They are worse than the Habs.

Dustin Brown RW Ankle Out 4-6 weeks. 12/2
Kip Brennan D Suspension 10 Games. Elgibile to return Sun. vs Chi. 12/28
Jared Aulin C Shoulder Surgery I-R. Out 4-6 months. 9/4
Martin Straka C Knee Out indefinitely. 1/11
Ziggy Palffy RW Shoulder Surgery Out Remainder Of The Season. 1/13
Aaron Miller D Neck I-R. 12/15
Adam Deadmarsh RW Concussion I-R. Out indefinitely. 10/10
Jason Allison C Neck I-R. Out indefinitely. 10/10

Wow. Thats...bad. I didn't realize LA had it so bad. I don't even like them, but just looking at that list I feel pity for them.

I just couldn't add Calgary. (Looks like Flames fans hijacked our poll anyways ) and I'm still holding out hope they'll tank the last half, and finish in 9th-12th place. Doubt it though. Seeing that list....I think it looks really odd with Calgary, Nashville, and Phoenix up there. That will soon change.

rest assured...calgary is looong overdue for a nice folding

anyway, i feel good about nashville this year, simply because the difficult part of our schedule is, by and large, over...and it's not like we're waiting for the injury bug. we beat colorado and st louis with 8 guys out, including vokoun. we're just NOW getting healthy. the talent level is better than in years past...but most of all,t he attitude is different. the predators used to strike me as a team that felt...they needed to squeak out wins, however possible. this year..they take the ice...feeling that they should win every game. the record shows it.

as for edmonton, i'll stand by my original prediction...9-10. they were due for a year like this, but i think next year will be better. guys like hemsky, pisani, torres, and (hopefully) rita will all be a year older...defense will be better from guys like bergeron and semenov...maybe you guys can get buffalo to give you a third for ferguson. it worked for us and delmore . looking forward to the oil\preds game this weekend. always good, tight games.

A Preds fan! Well, welcome! I didn't mean the Preds have no chance of making the dance; I meant its odd to see them up there.

Ahhhh, theres nothing like your first time....

....making the playoffs, get your mind out of the gutter!

I wouldn't mind seeing Nashville in there. Bump Calgary and Phoenix out replaced by Edmonton and Nashville. The Oilers are long overdue for a tear through the standings. Actually I wouldn't mind if the bottom 3 were Edmonton, Nashville and Calgary. Makes it interesting. How long do we have to put up with Detroit and Colorado always on top? Times are changing. In a few years the Oilers will be up there.
