Best UFA Signings This Year

Although this is a thread for the later part of the year, I made this post now to see the progress of other teams' UFA signings over the course of the season. Who made the smartest and/or the biggest impact UFA signings this year?

Randy Robitaille .582 Cap hit for the year (prorated from .625 as he signed a little into the year) Spezza is injured Robitaille fills in as centre for Alfredsson and Heatley and scores a couple of goals. So far he has 3 points and 2 goals in 5 games. Can play on the top line or the third line or the fourth line. Plays on the second PP. Is winning a whopping 2/3rds of his faceoffs. Playing 11-12 minutes a game.

Super cheap and useful role player for a good team. Awesome UFA signing.

For the Islanders Comrie, Guerin and Fedotenko are all working out good. Some may argue they are all "overpaid" but the fact they all on short term deals means they won't hurt us in the long run and are well worth everypenny now.

Quite a few.

Brian Rafalski for Detroit was a great signing. So was Scott Hannan to Colorado.

For forwards, I loved Blake coming to Toronto on a decent 4 million contract.

Rangers made out like bandits by signing Henrik to a 4.25 million deal, but only for one year. This guy will make over 6 next year on a multi-year deal.

Oh..and cant forget Bates Battaglia...

Hamrlik for the Habs is proving to be a very solid signing, even if he is paid quite a bit.

here in detroit im very happy with rafalskis skating and passing , hes turned the wings #1 unit with lidstrom and the euro twins line into the most dangerous unit on earth .

and though i dont watch colorado much i thought ryan smyth was the best ufa ,
he must be hell to deal with on a line with joe s. .

Mike Peca, Jan Hejda, and Jiri Novotny are all earning their modest contracts thus far. Three of the biggest pieces as to why the Jackets are doing so well right now.

Forgot about him. A great signing for a great price. Carolina is the perfect fit for his style of play.

Brisebois has been good too.

Paul Kariya has to be up there. The Blues top line is just phenomenal so far

Another guy who seems to be earning strong return on a modest salary is Bonk

Eric Perrin- $750k contract, 8 points in 14 games. A very solid forward for the Thrashers so far this year.

You'd be better off asking fans which UFA signings have been subpar so far.

That is not fair to Robitaille at all. On the first one it was a great accurate, quick release that put it in the net. He also made a nice move on the second goal.

For God sakes, Blake's gonna be getting $500,000 per goal if he's even playing by the end of that contract.

How is it that people overlook the length of contracts so easily?

Where in the hell was this skill when he was an Islander last year?

Robitaille was a hard worker with AHL skill playing on the Islander second line last year. Maybe he's dramatically improved over the summer, or maybe playing with Alfredsson and Heatley can make anyone look better.

The guy earned the shot that Ottawa gave him, but once Spezza comes back, don't expect him to keep it up.

If he's not playing by the end of the contract, why would that be a concern to the Leafs? He could very well retire before his contracts up but as far as I know, since he signed it before he was 35, it wouldn't count towards our cap if he retired. Toronto has enough money to send him to the minors if he's really that ineffective in his last year.

I'll certainly take 14 points in 15 games after he announces he has cancer.

I'd challenge any fan to provide a better impact/$$ rating.

Impact does not only happen on the scoresheet, but in the locker room.

(I was recently getting some RSS feeds with "old" stories -- guess the site was reorganizing things and stuff got "re-sent" -- and one had a quote from JR early off season saying that he might consider *paying* a team to allow him to play.)

499 and counting. (And it was a GWG too!)

I'm going with Briere...without a doubt.
Nylander as well, I've always liked him.
