sorry so late in responding...just got in from tampa!!!

last night, i had on my blue army shirt under my jersey (which i lifted to show the shirt underneath SEVERAL times!!)

and YES i still have them!! send me a pm or an email

running low on some sizes so if there really is enough interest i can get more printed.

to answer someone else's question, yes it all started with "the point" in January '06 against the pens when we all got the "the avatar"

http://hfboards.com/showthread.php?t=209506

and then the shirts came later:

http://hfboards.com/showthread.php?t=214158

i'm really excited it is still going strong!! every time kovy has a good game or two, i get more shirt orders....

I think that Gamera shipped out 500+ shirts. Some of them were doubles or more. Jugding from that, the estimated strength of the Kovalchuk Army is between 250 and 300.

BTW, here the thread that started it all: http://hfboards.com/showthread.php?t=209506

What was the deal, Sally couldn't ship the Army tee to you or something like that?

And BTW Tristelune was just asking yesterday where you had been this season!

http://archive.sport-express.ru/pdf/01.pdf

no translation yet, but if anyone reads russian that would be nice!!

as far as actual number of "army members" my computer was stolen that had the spreadsheet on which i kept that info, and it had about 450 different people. there have been many more since then, and i have all the info, i just haven't updated the new spreadsheet yet. the shirts have been shipped to 14 different countries...matter of fact i just sent one to finland yesterday!!

Армия Ковальчука (Russian for Kovalchuk Army)

non-pdf version of the article
briefly---
It mentions Sally
the hooligan gesture designed by a member from Boston
How the Movement is growing in numbers
Oveckin agrees to join the army
Tells about Sidney signing a shirt

Who is this prominent designer from Boston who you paid a substantial amount of money to come up with the Kovalchuk Army logo?

we had a "contest" of sorts to decide on the original design of the tshirts. several were submitted and one by RyanLambert (HF name) won. you can see it all unfold in the "pick out your favorite kovy army shirt" thread.

slitty, you are a founding member, i thought....weren't you around when the shirts were designed?

just sent some to russia a few days ago, btw

A translation of http://www.sport-express.ru/art.shtml?149154
(these machine translations can be pretty funny)

Thank you, Minna!

ABSOLUTELY ANOTHER Kovalchuk

Achievement of the forward of "Atlanta" which in two last matches has made two three-goal is made comments by own correspondent "SS" in Northern America.
Slava Malamud

" For the majority of colleagues with which I had honour to meet and converse in an open and frank manner about our all - hockey, for a long time not a secret, that I roughly breathe to Ilya Kovalchuku (or it is simple to Chuk as it often name). And it becomes frequent a subject of heated arguments. I have on that personal reasons, in fact its career in NHL and my career of the correspondent "SS" have begun in the same day: I wrote the first reporting about his debut match.

But it not in sentimental bias (by the way, it is recollected, that in that clause I for something have scolded it). The matter is that many my colleagues seldom seeing Chuk in NHL, judge about him only on matches for a combined team, in which he that sin to conceal, not shining. For them he is the spoilt superstar more interested in being the focus of attention, than in success of a command. But in America there is and absolutely another Chuk, hidden from critical looks Russia. That, course, very regrettably because this Chuk - the phenomenon so bright, opened and spontaneous, that, the right, it would be looked where more pertinently on our psychodelic open spaces, than in correct America. However, it at all does not prevent to love to America ours Chuk as their, forgiving to it all its frequent acts and his crazy.

In its America know, how impudent and desperately talented boy who, maybe, sometimes and comes nearer to the zone so as if at a dark blue line the malicious dog sits, but in another's does not wait Which always it is ready to deafen by click, to charge a throw, give him only a washer. Which can easy take it and if the contender persists - to acquaint it with glass. For which worst torture - sitting on a bench. It is difficult to them to throw off also gloves, and to scream he is can - all in glory of the general weapon because "I" from a command this concrete Ilya Kovalchuk does not separate it. In America specifying a finger in sitting on a bench of Crosby. This pose, with Chuk and its index finger, atlanta fans have embodied on red T-shorts with a gold star on a breast and an inscription "Army Kovalchuka". Not Hossa which in Atlanta adore, not cute Lehtonen, not old guardsman Holika - it is Kovalchuk
Such, in all magnificence, he also was in a recent match with "Tampa" in which has created the second successively three-goal . He has left in minority (toward the end, naturally, but then it in such situations and let out) when the command hopelessly lost, has hammered in a firm goal in lightning counterattack and has individually broken a course of game. Three goals from four throws, one transfer, 26 minutes of game time (it is most, even defenders!), the best in a command factor of utility... It even has won the beginning. An axiom of the present qualities of the leader - when the person himself tears off the command ото an ice and on a hump drags it to a victory. You saw Kovalchuk such? That. And in its NHL know as the person capable of it. When stars will converge and planet Chuk will enter into zenith.

Well and that stars converge far not always... Well, in it spontaneity and Ilya Kovalchuka's sincerity too is shown. Such it, ours.. Can sing songs, and can howl on the moon from melancholy, you understand, sincere. Can fall to the ground and turn back a clear falcon, and can - a woodpecker - "trashers", a bird. That not always at it turns out how he wants, - the fact, but that it wants he always, - too the fact. At presence of the clever trainer with thin understanding of complex psychology Chuk from it is possible to lift in in the sky. To Boby Hartley it to do it was possible, to all Russian instructors Kovalchuk - is not present. Now at it Don Waddell. For it Chuk is that branch on which Wadell sits, and the command is given on favour of storm waves Chuks inspiration. Stability here, certainly, does not threaten "Atlanta", but from the aesthetic point of view - cool. Stop, an instant, as they say..."
finish
