I thought he looked pretty good, all things considered. Two of the goals really weren't his fault, Exelby fell into him on one, and on the third the puck took a wicked deflection off one of our guys sticks and went straight top shelf. He ended up with 30 saves I beleive and with the shooting gallery we were hosting in the 2nd half of the first period and the majority of the 2nd, I'm surprised he didn't let more in.
He really needs to improve his puck handling though, he almost gave up a goal going back to play the puck and throwing it right to St. Louis who took an extra stride to get a better shot just before he slid into his way at the last second. A few other times he had a chance to get the puck farther out and either played it right to a Bolt's forward or impeded a Thrasher's defensemen.
"Oh, it's unbelievable, he played great," Kovalchuk said. "The first two [goals] they got a couple lucky bounces. They had a couple great chances, and it was just amazing. His glove is unbelievable. I tried to beat him in practice, and it's really tough."- Kovalchuk on Pavalec (via the AJC Blog)
High praize from a three time 40 goal+ scorer. Gotta love, how Kovy is trying to help Pavelec to build some confidence. Something that captains usually does.
