Thats right, I forgot that we traded Forsberg a week or two early. Anyway, the fact remains that the waiver period extends from 12 days before the start of the season to after rosters are unfrozen following the playoffs. Gauthier is done for the season, unless someone works out some seriously collusive deals.

I have no problem keeping him in the AHL until the playoffs (and maybe even through them, if we are in them and healthy on the blueline).

nope, Baum was called up a few days before the deadline

EDIT: found it in the CBA, waivers are in affect until the team's last season game, so the rule did change. still doesnt mean we cant trade him at the deadline, then the team that he gets traded to, call him up for theri playoffs

Re-entry waivers are new with the CBA, and are essentially in effect from 12 days before the season starts until after rosters unfreeze following the playoffs. Repeat: Gauthier is done. He cannot play in the NHL until next season without clearing re-enty waivers. He can't come up for the end of the regular season, he can't come up for the playoffs. We could in theory trade his rights to another franchise, but they can't call him up until next year without re-entry waivers either. Noone is going to pay him to play in the minors or pay $1.05m next year for him to play somewhere else. He is basically a Phantom for the year unless he decides he wants to play in Europe.
