What do you think happens when Malik returns?

Malik gets paired with Roszival.

Yes, Roszival and Staal have been together more than anything else because of Malik's absence but that doesn't mean you can move them apart permanently. As much as I want to see Staal get top line minutes, he can't with someone like Mara by his side, and Roszival and Malik play best with eachother. Forget about breaking up Tyuts and Girardi, so.

Unfortunately I have to agree. Although I would like to see Staal on the PP some more.

I'd like to keep Rosie-Staal, but my only concern, as some of the beat writers mentioned today, is the Malik-Mara pairing that would probably be the result.

Wasn't the best game for Mark.
Malik's return will move him to 3rd pair with Mara, which is good place to be at this time. Staal is doing very well to date.

Exactly, you can't really pair Malik with anyone other than Rosy. Even if you want to keep Staal with Roszival you cripple another pairing b/c Malik isn't very versitile that way.

I'd seriously start shopping Malik if I were Slats. See if we can ditch that salary and promote Staal in the process. If it were done at the deadline I think Staal would be ready for the responsibility by then.

ok......for everyone who wants to trade malik, what is the point if there is no other defenseman to play #5 or #6, i know sauer looked good in preseason but you cant ask him to play about 15-20 games and be ready for the playoffs......i think if a trade is going to happen, it will be for a very solid defensive- hard hitting #5 defensman

id keep rosie with staal... staal just seems a lot more comfortable with Rozsival and he's really moving the puck well.

No he won't. Unless we get another dman, but i don't see any other teams trading a better dman for Malik. Our defense is playing great why do people want to screw around w/ it? If it isn't broke, don't fix it!!!!!!!!

This team is just not going to trade away veteran players unless they fall out of the playoff picture.

Back to the original topic. When Malik comes back, the pairings will go back to how they were before. But now Renney is going to feel comfortable leaning on Staal for more than 14 minutes a night.

Or unless this year's Dan Girardi emerges (Baranka? Sauer?)

I've really liked the Rozsival/Staal pairing but as others have mentioned, Malik and Mara is something I don't want to try for a single minute. There's really no other choice, Rozsival/Malik, Girardi/Tyutin, and Staal/Mara.

haha...malik i think is underrated on this team and on this board.....he has a very good stick and plays against the other teams best lines....he also makes very good passes and is VERY good on the pk...that being said, he isnt a #1 or #2 defenseman

We can kill Malik all we want but I can't see a Malik-Mara pairing being any worse than a Mara-Strudwick pairing.

I reckon Malik will come back to the top line where he belongs. I have been impressed with Staal though, for once Malik being out the line-up hasn't ruined the results.

Trading Malik would be a good move for the sake of clearing some cap room to address other needs at the deadline. I would be uncomfortable with such a young defensive corps in the playoffs though.

I think Malik back with Roszie is the only thing that can happen, even though I've loved what I've seen out of Staal.

I'd rather Staal stay with Rozsival right now until he shows he needs a reduction in minutes. I think that pairing is more mobile and just better overall at the moment, especially Malik coming back from injury.

Malik can take a hike. Struds is a hell of alot tougher, maybe not that skilled, but at least Struds will bang some bodies.
