How has Minnesota recruit Nico Sacchetti looked so far this season? I saw his stats and they're a little lower than I expected this season, but I'd like to hear from people that have seen him play this season.
No doubt he should be producing a lot more. One of my (undrafted) sleeper picks for '07, Aaron Lewadniuk, is scoring goals at twice Nico's pace. In any case I think his scoring will pick up soon.
Aaron Lewadniuk is a talented player who has impressed me in my viewings of him for McKeen's this season. He must work on his game-in, game-out consistency, and even shift-to-shift consistency. I'm not saying he gets lazy, but when he plays his best hockey, it's quite good. At the first game at the Fall Classic he was very impressive. The next two games I saw him, he was okay. When I saw him in late October, he looked decent and showed flashes.
As for Sacchetti, I follow him for McKeen's and Andrew's Stars Page. Sacchetti was reasonably impressive at the Fall Classic with his puckhandling and confidence with the puck. In doing a Q & A with Sacchetti for McKeen's, he's actively working on changing his game a bit, and that's not easy to do after playing a different way in high school. Don't be alarmed if he doesn't put up huge numbers in the USHL.
Besides, it's not unusual for these high school draft picks to come in and not be immediate impact players. The USHL is a lot better than high school hockey, or Midget AAA. Yes, Will Weber came out of Michigan high school and is very, very impressive (in my opinion), but...that's one player. Yes, Paul Carey is one of the most impressive players I've ever seen in the USHL, but... give Sacchetti some time.
I'm not exaggerating on Carey. In my opinion, from my viewings of him this season, he can be better, overall, than Kyle Okposo. Nice pick by the Avalanche, nice recruit by BC. At the Fall Classic, Carey looked decent, but when I got to see him in late October, wow!
