San Jose intrested in Zhamnov

An NHL source said the Detroit Red Wings had asked the Hawks to talk to them before they pull the trigger on any deal. Add the San Jose Sharks to the teams possibly interested in Hawks center Alex Zhamnov. Sharks GM Doug Wilson did nothing to dampen speculation while talking with Bay Area reporters. While not confirming the Sharks' interest, Wilson also said he wouldn't dismiss it. Wilson and Hawks assistant GM Dale Tallon, who is fielding calls regarding Zhamnov, have a good relationship as Hawks alumni.

IMO, he's a better fit for the Wings.

The Sharks would almost have to add another sniper to get the full benefit of acquiring Zhamnov, although he would surely be an improvement over their 2nd line centerman du jour and would fit into Wilson's system while potentially paving the way for a subsequent Ricci deal. Still, if Pulford succeeds in starting up a bidding war, I expect Wilson to back off.

yup, that about says it all from the SJ perspective. I'd add that I don't see SJ doing anything until Michelek comes back and plays for several games.

Would it be smart for the Wings to go after Zhamnov or go after a player like Ricci? I am not sure which would fit better. Draper really is not playing a checking role with his sudden goal explosion season. He is our 2nd line center, Ricci would fit in on the 3rd.
