Do you think there's any chance he may be called up to replace Zhitnik who is playing horrible? I say give the kid a chance or is it to early?

I would be more concerned about replacing McCarthy and Exelby who are both injured right now.

Not sure if Oystrick is the guy who gets the call, but I would not be surprised if the Thrashers call someone up from Chicago tonight.

If it's purely an injury replacement, I'd think Kwiatkowski would be the guy they'd call from Chicago.

If Oystrick couldn't play in preseason, I'm not sure how he's suddenly going to be able to play during the regular season.

Kiwi makes a lot more sense, if needed.

Kiwi has NHL experience (264 games worth), and is performing better than Oystrick in Chicago this year as well. Oystrick seems to be playing this year at about the level he was expected to play at prior to last season's training camp.

Defenseman A: 12 GP, 3 G, 5 A, 8 Pts, +1, 20 PIM
Defenseman B: 12 GP, 1 G, 4 A, 5 Pts, +4, 18 PIM
Defenseman C: 12 GP, 0 G, 3 A, 3 Pts, +9, 46 PIM

A is Kiwi, B is Oystrick, C is Valabik.

The extra points from Kiwi are solid, but we have enough offense and right now I think the +/- and the reduced PIM should be the most important factor, so I would give the nod to Oystrick.

Boris' extra PIM are from fighting majors and/or 10 min misconducts. I think he's done better this year in controlling his temper though. I still say Kiwi would get the call just because of the vast difference in NHL experience.

Lots of buzz about young Kulda but has anyone been watching Oystrick? Based on this thread he was less than impressive at the season's start but wondering how he's progressed. enough where he is a viable competitor for a spot in 08-09?

His playoff line shows he's played in most if not all the games and he's getting PP minutes. Avg about a half point per game. Has 35 PIMs. Bad penalties? Showing some grit? Eyewitness reports are appreciated

In a word: no.

Saw him two games at the end of the season and two games last weekend. He's just an average AHLer at this point, regressed since last year. He's paired with Brian Sipotz, and if you counted out the minutes, I'd be surprised if they weren't the bottom pair in minutes.

His contract is up I believe, and he might be looking for a job. And not an NHL one.

Lot's of people thought he might make the team last season, but he had a drop-dead horrible training camp / preseason and never really seemed to recover. His future doesn't look quite so bright right now, but anything can happen.

I would help a lot if he were to show up at camp in elite pro athlete condition. A guy who was totally committed to making the NHL wouldn't come to camp looking like he did last year. Just my opinion.

It just amazes me that a guy like that won't hire a personal trainer or go to a top work out facility in the off season.

Consider this:
AHL salary: around $50,000
NHL salary: around $500,000

Would you hire a trainer if it could result in 1000% increase in your salary?
