Jared Staal is this year's draft? Oh, get him. Get him. Sign Eric and Jordan when they become UFAs. At 13th in the OHL, you'd think there'd be a chance to get him with a late 1st or trading up to an early 2nd.

I heard Jared was worse than all 3 of his older Staal brothers.

But being ranked 13th seems pretty nice to me!

I think people think he will opt out of this years draft. Not sure at all though.

jared should not be drafted with anything higher than the 50th overall pick in the draft, i.m.o.

He's #13 in the OHL, not #13 out of all CHL skaters.

Thats a bad prediction, cause he'll go higher than that, easy. First rounder with that size and the bloodlines.

He looks and plays more like Marc right now, who also took more time to develop than Jordan & Eric.

I hope teams avoid him like they did Marc, i'd take him if we end up somewhere between 18-30.

hey man, just telling you what i've heard about it on the prospect board.

but you are right, he will be drafted generally on bloodlines.

and a little fyi, did anybody else know marc was switched to defense one game as a kid because they had injuries? he originally was a forward....

and to quote one poster

Please watch Jared Staal before you comment on him. I guarantee your position would be extremely different. He has improved, yes. But if he was not playing with Lusnac and Baker he would have around 2-3 points. In my opinion:

Pros:
- Size: He has a big frame, which gives him potential
- Hockey Sense: He knows where to be on the ice, which is good

Cons:
- Skating: He is an awful skater, and has very little balance on his blades. His speed is below average as well.
- Finish/Hands: I have seen multiple occasions this year alone as well as about 10 times last year where Jared has received great passes which he fails to one time, the type of passes any goal scorer will bury. He also is not good with the puck and rarely has it on his stick.

Overall, i think he SHOULD be a 3rd - early 4th round pick but I think you could see him go in the 2nd round. I think he should develop into a solid OHL player, but i really don't see any NHL potential in him unless he drastically changes his skating and picks up some hands in the next couple of years.

I am baffled when it comes to amatuer players..

Who is a guy the Rangers should be targeting with their pick

Skating and puckhandling could change once he grows into that frame, like Marc did. Remember, he's not even 18 until next august, I think he still has time to develop.

I don't think he'll be a worldbeater, but I do think he can be a valuable all around forward with size.
