Look at the standings. We are 3 games above .500 over a 1/3 into the season. We have played 11-12 rookies. And even without those rookies, we are still one of the youngest and most inexperienced teams in the league. We were supposed to be cellar dwellars looking up on Columbus. We were supposed to be fighting for Ovechkin. Now look at us. Up until Pitts latest purge, we were last in the league in payroll. We are in the thick of the playoff race, and we have so much room for improvement. If we cure our PP woes, we'll be in great shape for the final 40 game stretch. So let's all sit back and smile at what our team has done so far. No team has done what we've done considering the expectations/payroll/percieived talent.
Smokey, well said. As our team gets better, our expectations grow disproportionately. Sometimes it's best to stop and look at how much progress we have made and then focus on how much farther we want to go.
I don't begrudge the Canadians, and in particular the people of Winnipeg, wanting to have a team. But I do have a problem with some hypocritical viewpoints about lack of support here when that is why the team left in the first place. The Preds have been around 5 years with hardly a sniff of playoff hockey, have had if not the lowest payroll then within about 20 funnel cakes of the lowest. And are a non traditional hockey market competing with one of the most succesful NFL franchises in that same 5 year span, in football country. And yet they draw similar numbers.
Despite the naysayers like George Plaster ...et al.
Bring a winner to this town and it will be supported. Playoff tickets will be a huge ticket here. Perhaps Mr. Plaster forgets the first season of the Oilers at Vandy?
The media needs to get behind this team to build the energy these guys deserve. What's not to love about this team? Hard working, no name, hustling lunch pail hockey. I encourage everyone to find someone who has never been to a game and offer to take them.
In reality it is not the individual fans that are the problem, more corporate interest must come front a center. I think the hard core fans of the Preds are incredible......
it will just take outside interest to make people realize what they are missing.......or what they may lose.
