Gary Roberts

I Know ther have been lots of proposals and all that stufff, and we really dont need to trade since were the best in the league but i was thinking if we added Gary Roberts to our team, we would have a better playoffs with a guy like him. ]

What would we have to give up for him.

i think

TO OTTAWA:Gary roberts

TO PITTSBURGH: 1st round pick ,Mcgrattan and Robitaille

Imagine this :

Heatley-spezza-Alfredsson
Roberts-Fisher-Neil
Vermette-Kelly-Eaves
Schubert-Mccamond-Donavon

I think we would have to give up more than that but thats all i can think of

No, nothing.

The day when Roberts retires and his name is no longer linked in any way shape or form to the Sens will be the second greatest day ever. (The first being when the Sens win the cup)

Also there is a trade proposal thread right at the top of the page.

Gary Roberts sounds like the name of the old man living across the street from you who comes out to collect the newspaper every morning in his bathrobe and mouldy slippers while his cat weaves around his legs.

P.S. Pittsburgh won't want McGrattan, they have Laraque.

That is stupid. Pittsburgh doesn't want to trade him anyway but why would we want to do this? Robitaille is fine and makes a ton less $$$$. Why give up a 1st?

Sorry didn't mean to hurt your feelings.... but you are offering a massive overpayment for a player we don't really need and a player the other team likely doesn't want to give up.

Pittsburgh is struggling right now... but they still think they can turn it around and be a contender. They signed Roberts for his leadership and grit and for the playoffs. You don't trade a gritty experienced leader while you are trying to turn a team around.

Ottawa is 15-2. They do not need Roberts right now at all. Nor do they want to trade Robitaille who just signed a good deal to be here for his family and his pregnant wife. Plus a 1st rounder is massive overpayment. Plus Pittsburgh already has a far better enforcer than McGrattan.

I might want Roberts if for some reason the Pens can't rebound and are out of the playoff picture at the deadline. (unlikely) and we just give up a 2nd or 3rd round pick and a 2nd tier prospect or a Russian prospect that is still in Russia. Even then it is hard to see a place for him in the top 6 or top 9. He probably could be useful but he is not some kind of saviour or top forward at this point. But against the right team in the right series he might make a difference. He would have if he was healthy and rested vs Anahiem last year I guess. But after 3 rounds would he have been either helathy or rested enough to make an impact?

There have been some pretty good 28-30th overall picks in the past.

Ummm no, maybe you should learn the game of hockey (or atleast the drafting procedures) before making any more proposals involving draft picks.

Plus, that first proposal is terrible.

I like your idea but I don't like the trade if you take those two other guys and the first round pick and add a second round and add Patrick Eaves instead that would be a fair trade.

Here is what the trade would look like.

To:Ottawa Senators
Gary Roberts
Toittsburgh Penguins
Patrick Eaves
2nd round draft pick in 2008

Also guys I was listening to the team 1200 this morning at 8:00am when Pierre is on and one of the guys asked about the Pittsburgh Penguins and Pierre said that Mark Recchi was a healthy scratch on Thursday and the Penguins want ice a youner lineup and Ray Sehrio is looking to make a trade for a defensive defencemen so I am saying I can see either one of Mark Recchi or Gary Roberts being traded at the trade deadline?

That's even worse.

Also Recchi is garbage, watch a Pens game.

The deal is a bit confusing but I don't really see it happening. For one thing Buffalo does not need McGrattan, they have enough enforcers as it is. Second who is giving up the 4th and who the 3rd? I think you might be undervaluing the players. Roberts deserves more then a 4th, maybe a 3rd. Kotalik had a 38 points in 66 games last year. 62 in the previous full year. He also has good size. He warrants a 2nd round pick at least and I don't think Buffalo would give him up that easily. Yes you included McGrattan but like I said before, do they need him?

Okay, I know that's what the Panthers wanted when the deal for Roberts was open originally. But even Muckler was smart enough to realize giving up Patty for Roberts is simply idiotic. I mean honestly, you want to trade away a young talent with decent numbers, much more room to grow and a cheap salary for an aged player? Yes Roberts is gritty and has experience but Patty Eaves? Roberts is a 4th liner who might inject some energy to a 3rd line at times. Patty is a top 6 forward, you work that one out.

I highly doubt that Ottawa will deal its first round pick, considering the draft will be in Ottawa.

No offense but... are you out of your mind? [Roberts for McGratton might make sense by themselves, theoretically.] Sure as a Pens fan I would be extremely happy to make that trade but I think maybe you're overestimating Roberts' value. He might pick it up a bit this spring but I wouldn't expect much.
