what will happen to Brisebois after the season?

he has a 1mil buyout after this season, or we could pick up the last year of his contract at 4.5mil. What do you guys think will happen?

we could:

a) buy him out, be rid of him
b) buy him out, try and sign him to a lesser contract
c) pick up his last year at 4.5mil

it all depends on the new CBA
do we know when the player will go on strike? will we know before july 1st?

Well I like what Breezer is bringing to the team right now. With Quintal possibly retirering at the end of the season we can't afford to lose too many right handed dmen.

what are the better dmen available that are UFA and that wants to play in montreal? Brisebois certainly wants to play here and he proved it.

Doesn't he have 2 years left on his contract? I do believe his 4 year contract only started last season. We have to pay him next year. The option is only for the following year.

Of course I may be wrong; my memory isn't the... what was I saying again?

Yep, next year is guaranteed but his NTC ends this off-season.

It's for 05-06 we can buy him out.

You people are crazy

Why would we spend about 6 mil (about 2/3 of his remaining contract) to buy-out of our 2nd best Dman? Who exactly could easily replace him for less than 1,5 mil/year (the amount of money we would save by buying him out)?

This is without a doubt the lamest thing I've read heren in a while.

Agreed, and Brisebois is playing pretty well right now.

I don't recall Brisebois having a buyout option? I recall his contract being a no trade for 2 years and that being lifted on the last 2...anyone have proof on a 1 million buyout option???

I know he does, I'd remember hearing it, and I'm 99% sure. It's a 1M buyout for his final season. Guess that's next year. We can't lose Quintal and Brezzy, so he should be back next year for sure. Brezzy, Komo, Rivet should be the right side next year, imo. Souray Markov Hainsey/Bouillon.

I rather keep Brisebois at 3.5 and trade Rivet (who make the same kind of money) to get something valuable .

In answer to the original question, I think the Habs will welcome Patrice back to the fold come training camp. Breezer has really turned the corner on his career with a solid, no nonsense game since BG did that big public support thing for him. He is now a team leading +11 and third on the team in ice time (so they aren't hiding him away anywhere). Yeah, it's a lot to pay for his services, but no sense crying over spilt milk at this point. At least we are getting something very positive in return compared to what we got from Czerk, Audette and MacKay.

For the record, I am eating some crow on this one. I was amongst the many that thought that Breezer would be gone before this season started. Although my prediction was wrong, I am very glad as to how this story actually unfolded.

To bad they don't make the same money. Brezzy will get 4M next year, Rivet 2.75M, kind of a big difference at 1.25M over one year.

If Montreal were to trade Rivet they would need to cover that salary a bit me thinks. I for one would like to keep Brisebois, unless a good deal came our way that is the only way I would like to see him go...he is playing too good for us right now.

1-0 Flyers! 1 shot on the Leafs goal, I goal!!! Of topic, but it;s the Leafs losing YAAAAAAA!!!!1

Breezy has a $1 mil buyout after this season.

I would definitely exercise it, pronto. He's been overpaid for a long time now and never should have been signed in the first place. I'm sure it's one of the main reasons why AS "stepped down."

No way can we pay this stiff $4.5 million bucks to play stay-at-home defense. And we don't want him to do anything else, that's for sure.

Dump him.

We're stuck with Rivet unless we can move him or unless they think he can get better somehow.

Go easy, guys! You can't replace 2 veteran defensemen with rookies whenever you feel like it. Not only that, Hainsey is the only one of the upcoming bunch who has real pro experience, and neither he nor Komisarek is solid yet.

Trade him to Marseilles.
I'm sure he'll take the trade to France.

Buy him out. If he wants to play here that badly offer him what he really deserves.

We would buyout Brisebois not this summer but the one after that because he has a 1M buyout option in his contract. We could then resign him to a 2M contract. 1M+2M = 3M. 1M less than the 4M we overpay him with.

They aren't saying the habs will or should do this but it's possible.
